    Hello,

I have 1999 GTP and I have been experiencing weird random issues with my Grand Prix and I'm not sure I can attribute all my problems to the ignition switch or maybe it's something else? I don't know. Any help would be appreciated!

A problem I have is when the key is turned back into the Accessory Position on the ignition the DIC shows 0.0 and sometimes flashes.

Another issue I have is the time on the radio is gone. You can not see any info at all on the radio display.

The last and most important issues I have is my a/c unit not working. You can hear the compressor kick on but no Air comes out at all. I have the unit with digital dual climate. You spin the dial to set the temp. I tried taking out the blower and testing it thinking it might be the blower. BUT the blower works fine. When I reconnected everything, I could of swore I heard the a/c kick on for a couple seconds BUT nothing works. You can hear things moving when switching modes and like I said the compressor kicking on BUT just not the blower.

now from what I have read some people say blower resistor and some people say ignition. What would everyone / anyone think would be best for my case. Thank you for any and all help in advance! HAPPY 4th!

Thank You AndrewZ28 that would help. I thought about just going ahead and replacing my ignition switch using "Sparky's instructions" but reading that someone messed up their car kind of makes me a little hesitant. If you could let me know how difficult it was that would also be helpful AndrewZ28.

Had another question for you. Where did you get your ignition switch from? When I did a search on Rockauto for the ignition switch I found "steering column ignition switch assembly" and then had a bunch of "ignition switches" with the option of having a "FRONT COMPARTMENT FLOOR CNSL", "with or without Console Shift" OR "with or without Floor Console".... I have NO clue what any of that means or what it's even asking..

Could you help me understand what ignition switch I would even need for my car if it turns out to be the problem? Looking for forward to hearing your results AndrewZ28! Thanks!

your looking for a "ignition harness", not a switch or key or tumbler, just the harness is changed.

but before doing this you got other issue to address, the shiftier is a broken wire to the shiftier, or the shift lock under the steering wheel. your radio bulbs probably burned out.

and the fan, that could be a bad resistor next to the fan.

    I purchased this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm also using Sparky's Instructions, Besides I'm sure whoever messed up their steering column didn't know what they were doing.

I'm sure the switch is the problem for my A/C and having to move the harness around in order to start the car. However you do have other electrical issues so I would first check with what Scottydoggs said also.

its the same in the link for me.

who ever needs one should check that it fits their cars year first any ways.

if you do a search at Rockauto.com on "ignition harness" it does not return anything. if you do a search on "ignition switch" under 1999 GTP it returns parts that are similar to what is pictured above.. but they list by these options ""FRONT COMPARTMENT FLOOR CNSL", "with or without Console Shift" OR "with or without Floor Console".... " SO I'm sort of confused on which part I would need...

BUT from what your saying from above you believe my problem is the a/c blower resistor. I just wanted to confirm that before I spent over $100 on a Blower resistor.

The shifting problem only happens maybe 2 times a month and it's been going on for like 6 months. I figured if it was a broken cable or part that it would just not work all the time? I guess I'm wrong in assuming that?

and the same with the radio some days, again maybe 2 days a month the lights on the radio are bright and you can see the display fine. That's why I was kind of hoping all the issues were related....

is there a way to diagnose \ test the Ignition switch or A/C Resistor?

    THANKS for the help guys!

let alone the issue when turning the key backwards into the Accessory Position and getting 0.0 on the DIC... That has flashed before in the past.. Which I thought was a sign that the ignition switch was bad. No?

New Ignition "Whatever you want to call it" thing is installed! Fixed my Starting and A/C issues . Now all Speeds 1-5 work properly, just needs Freon. Although those two issues both related to the Ignition Switch/Harness. So I would find out some type of way to diagnose or test the A/C Blower Resistor, before purchasing anything. I wish I knew how to but I'm not too familiar with it. As far as the installation it went pretty well.

see if its got power to and from it, the resistor and the fan. a simple test light for 2 bucks will tell you if its getting power.

ignition harness aint all that bad is it? glad it fixed your issues up.
