    01 GP SE 3.1 4t65e transmission. Stock.
I'm going to be putting in a trans. cooler here pretty soon along with a shift kit (getting the classic hard shifting). I've looked around the site for a how-to but haven't been able to find anything specific to these cars. I plan on putting a Hayden 1403 cooler in. Can someone chime in with a step by step on this. Does the bumper cover come off, do you use the zip ties that come with it etc. Thanks for any advice on this.

I don't think a cooler will fix the hard shifting, but like D said few write ups.

I looked and all they had was a video of a guy who already did his. Basically how to route the hoses. I'll keep looking through the forums.

I'm going to put in a Transgo shift kit as well. Most people have had pretty good luck doing it this way (cooler and shift kit).

Page 2 of the last link I provided has a sketch of how I routed my lines (if you didn't get there already).

I'm actually going to bypass the radiator cooler part of it. these links and diagrams really help. Thanks for the links.

Stocker, I looked at your sketch and it looks like you have the lines labeled backwards as everything that I have read indicates the return line is on top.

I want to get my cooler installed finally.

From what I have read it looks like I basically need to just cut the return line at the rubber, double barb it, run to Hayden cooler, double barb it, run back to return line going to transmission.

Does that sound right or am I making it too simple? LOL

    Thank you sir.

Just put in my online order at Advance to get 4.5 feet more rubber line (just in case), double barbs, and fuel injection hose clamps. Went ahead and got 8 hose clamps because I figure I will double clamp each connection.

Grand total on that was $15.92 after discount code TRT30.

The guys at Advance love me, because I am one of their easiest customers to deal with..... that and the fact that I have probably spent $10k there over several years. LMAO

I thought the hose for the cooler would slip over the end of the existing trans line because its basically barbed for the quick connect, or is it the fact using double barbs and hose clamps makes extra sure the line won't pop off?

You preferably always want to cut the rubber hose and insert a double barb for the most secure connection. The metal stock line offers nothing for the hose to grab on too.

Ahh gotcha, thought when I do mine I could avoid hacking up one of the lines but I guess if you wanted to go back stock its just simple as putting the 2 stock lines on the barb fitting. Think fuel injection clamp would be better than a hose clamp for the price difference?

I wanted to avoid the same, but finally said screw it. Like you said, I could always just double barb the stock line back together, or worst case Advance has the return line for $20.

Make sure that if bypassing the stock cooler you add a fan for it, or do like I did and wire an engine fan to run all the time, otherwise temps could shoot up at long stops and slow speeds
