Re: Engine Miss? (Low power, lots of vibration, "blub blub" noise from exhaust)
could be a clogged up injector.
you can take the fuel rail off and swap the injector with the one next to it, see if the problem follows the injector.
Re: Engine Miss? (Low power, lots of vibration, "blub blub" noise from exhaust)
Good idea. I'll try that tomorrow.
Re: Engine Miss? (Low power, lots of vibration, "blub blub" noise from exhaust)
It is possible to look in to a fuel pump relay or the fuel pump itself going bad. When you first noticed the problem, did it start happening after filling the car up with gas?
Re: Engine Miss? (Low power, lots of vibration, "blub blub" noise from exhaust)
No it didn't occur just after filling up with gas.
I had had my oil changed at Express, and then drove around shopping probably 30 mile trip mixed freeway and in town. As I was coming home and getting off the interstate (the offramp was a mild incline) and stopped at the red light, the car began shaking pretty violently. In the ten minute drive home is continued shaking intermittently and seemed down on power. It has been that way ever since.
Re: Engine Miss? (Low power, lots of vibration, "blub blub" noise from exhaust)
Update:
Haven't gotten frisky and swapped out any injectors just yet, might do that after lunch. I did, however, check 3 injectors for resistance. Injectors number 1 and 3 came out to right ar 14.4 ohms. The injector on #2, the suspect cylinder, came back at 13.8-14.0.
Is that far enough out of spec to be causing the issue and need replacing?
Re: Engine Miss? (Low power, lots of vibration, "blub blub" noise from exhaust)
Update:
Tested spark at the number 2 cylinder. I unplugged the number 2 spark plug wire at the spark plug and inserted a new plug. I grounded the spark plug out on top of the motor and started the engine. Spark seems to be fine arcing to the top of the motor.
That said, the car didn't seem to run any different without the number 2 plug being connected. I think I've at least truly narrowed down which cylinder is the issue.
Re: Engine Miss? (Low power, lots of vibration, "blub blub" noise from exhaust)
Update:
Pretty sure its the coil now. Swapped coils and now the number 2 cylinder passed the unplugging injector test, and now number 6 fails. The miss followed that coil terminal!
Off to the parts store I go!
Re: Engine Miss? (Low power, lots of vibration, "blub blub" noise from exhaust)
Update:
Fixed! Replaced the suspect coil, and all is well!
Thanks to everyone for the help in this thread as well as general chat!
