I have a 1999 Pontiac grand prix gt. I was told by an electrical shop my BCM has to be replaced. They wanted to send it out to be repaired which means I would be without a car for a week or 2 not an option. I told them I could get a rebuilt or new one. Would it have to be reprogramed of flashed. The tech said no he was not showing anything for this old a vehicle. The only thing that would have to be reset are the key fobs. I have remote and antitheft.
I ordered a NEW GM BCM #10439803 on ebay. I have seen posts where it has to be programed and some not. Also procedures for installing a new BCM to let it communicate with the PMC.

Have been all over Google and cant find an answer. Really don't trust dealers. Been ripped off almost every time I deal with one.
Any suggestions where to get help or your experience would be appreciated.

Last I checked it needs to be programmed to your vin. Pretty sure you can't just swap them that easily. I'm sure others will chime in.

Went to a guy with Snap On tech 2 equipment and he said plug and play for my vehicle. I also called an on line GM parts dealer and they can tell from your vin number if this BCM has to be programed. In my case no, its plug and play. By the way this BCM #10439803 fits 37 different GM vehicles. The only thing you have to do is reprogram your key fobs, so the codes can be set, up to 4 fobs, for the BCM. Of course I called my local dealer and he said bring the car in it has to be programed.
This varies vehicle to vehicle. But it pays to check it out. The dealer price for this BCM is $244/00. I got a new one on ebay for $124 including shipping. Plus 2 new GM key fobs for $25.00.
When I get all the parts I will let everyone know how it all turns out if anyone is interested let me know.
