I have a 2002 GT 3.8L and the temp gauge indicates the engine isn't getting warm enough.

160 is the first line and 210 is the next line with a temp number. There is a longer line in the middle of the two so I figure that is 185.

The gauge is running midway between 160 & 185, therefore I'm guessing it is running about 173 degrees.

I bought a new thermostat and rubber gasket today but it is like 5 degrees outside right now.

Do you think my stat needs replacing & do I need to drain the radiator to do this or do I just unbolt the housing and hope the antifreeze doesn't pool up on the motor and make too much mess?

    Thanks

    Jim

It's accurate, but it's not linear. Each division in the gauge the higher you go is worth less than the previous.

I find both of my GP gauges off, by a bit actully. When I want to know realtime temp I refer to the Scanmasters i have mounted in each cars or if I want to log it I get my PT.
