    Hi all,

My left rear window doesn't open. Fortunately it's stuck completely closed so this is not urgent. I've researched about the motors and regulators but have noticed a particular symptom that might be a clue, and I thought I'd ask you all.

When I press the window down button, there's no sound, but the lights dim slightly. Power is being drawn somewhere. Does this give you any indication of what the problem might be?

It didn't get worse, by the way, just went from working perfectly to working intermittently (but at full speed when it did work) to not working at all.

    Thanks,

sounds like the motor took a dump or the cable is locked up. they cut through the guide/sliders, or it just frays and knots up the cable inside the motor.

replace it. you want a window regulator, dont waste your time with one with out a new motor cause you think your maybe good still, not worth it when it fails.

junk yard regulators are cheap and last a while most of the time. oem is better then the after market for these.

The cable for it may have got jammed in the pully I only say that because your lights dim which means it's drawing power, I dont recall them dimming lights when they die tho but I never paid attention to it. I say tear it apart inspect it and replace the whole deal if needed. But you don't hear the motor so could have just died. They do that a lot.

Definitely get the whole assembly.... You might not know it but there can easily be a dead spot in the motor. My driver window gets stopped in the perfect place every 6 months or so and wont go up or down until I wiggle / bump it and stare at it menacingly until it works.

Sorry to post back on such an old thread; I just wanted to report my results for others who might have this problem. Installation took about 25 minutes and it now works perfectly! I followed instructions in the GM Techline service manual. One tip: buy replacement trim panel clips!!! The old ones end up pretty much unusable. Also, a dedicated trim panel clip remover tool works better than pliers/screwdrivers/etc for getting them out.

Thank you to Scottydoggs, Russosaur, and frosty for responding so quickly and advising me on this issue!

Nice. Always helpful to members when you report back with results. I probably may have re-used the old clips. who knows lol

parts stores carry them tre clips. packs of 10 for under 10 bucks iirc.

take a old one in the store with you match it up, the flat part that slides in the door skin, thats the style part to look for.

I would buy new trim clips if I didn't actually break the plastic holding them in.....fml
