coolant leak drivers side behind engine (pic now)

So, I am starting a new thread for my coolant issue...

Swore I had it fixed. new water pump/coolant elbows/upper heater core fittings.

Everything seemed fine last night and this morning. I got home tonight and noticed antifreeze PUDDLE more towards the drivers side.

?! I cannot see any dripping/leaking from above anywhere. The passenger side of the engine where I did all the work is not leaking. it appears to be coming from the transmission/engine meet up area and hitting the oil pan and dripping off the oil pan lip from about an inch away from the flywheel/flex plate. it does also seem to be dripping off the engine higher up somehow and hitting the transmission pan as well in about the same area. however, shinning a light up in between the trans and oil pan/block, the block appears to be dry. (not much room to get in there with anything to see real good).

my fear is head gasket. my hope is a LIM. but I should be able to see that up top right?! anything else I am missing or not thinking of?!

Check the t stat housing

temp gauge could be leaking or the t stat gasket. or even the rad hose to the t stat. dont think the lim would let a puddle out.

worst case is a freeze out pug rusted through. so give them a good looking at. on the front not a big deal, good time to install a block heater.

I will check again. I did check the tstat housing and I see where it looks like it leaked before, but not currently leaking (first place I looked). didnt exactly look for temp gauge sensor. Ill check again before I go get the duece and a half.

I had an LIM leak that was super hard to see trickling out the back corner. Ran down to about that spot but driving scatters coolant everywhere. Might have made the leak worse doing the work you just did then bleeding it and all.

that is possible I suppose. wish I could see it with my eyes so I could know what to fix. or how to proceed. Thinking of picking up a low mileage engine, and throwing headers and stuff on it pre-install then dropping it in. But I really cant do that for a few weeks (financially)

Couldn't it be leaking from the knock sensors? If you take them out it drains the block so couldn't it potentially be leaking from one of them?

Take a look under your TB at this little cover

It's more common than we think and ... most likely your leak on the driverside.

The cover on the bottom going left to right like a rectangle? with what looks to be a 10mm on each side? that could be it. its deffinitaly not leaking from temp sensor or tstat housing.

I had a difficult time finding my leak as it would only leak while I was putting my foot in the gas hard and smelling burning coolant but it would stop leaking by the time I got to pull over and check. Turned out to be my upper rad hose where it connects to the tstat housing. It was due to my clamp i'm guessing since I changed the stock clamp to the adjustable ones from autozone (idk what it's called exactly, haha) At first it looked like it was my temp sensor because it looked like it was leaking beneath it but after the leak got a bit worse I saw some dripping from the housing and tested it by tying a rag around the housing without touching anything else and drove around a few days to see if I could still smell the coolant and I didn't so I changed the hose out and replaced the OEM clamp. Good ever since.

I have no freaking clue what is going on or where its coming from. here is a pic. There is nothing leaking or wet up top. freeze plugs are not leaking. head gaskets are not leaking that I can see. Is there a freeze plug on the back of the engine where the transmission/flex plate is? That is all I can imagine. nothing up top is wet. it drips a good sized drop every second even after its off till the car cools off. and its deffinitaly flowing from the transmission down the oil pan lip.

im willing to bet the rear freeze plug is leaking. there was a guy who was able to get one out, then he installed a block heater cause it impossible to pound a new plug in the hole with out dropping the tranny, or pulling the engine.

get a inspection mirror and a flash light and try to get a better look at freeze plugs.

its not a freeze plug. I can see all of them on the back side. they look recently replaced and its dry below them (used a mirror and a stinger).

i dont see a plug on the rear cover, but that dont mean it cant leak.

the gasket set for the cover on the back. iirc coolant touches those ports in the top. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/f...923%7CL2*15033

ah. that is kind of what I am thinking then... I really cannot find anything up top. and its not the head gaskets or back freeze plugs.

That means I have to pull it out. Since its out should I just drop a 04+ drivetrain in it?

one or the other, motor or tanny needs to come out to change that gasket.

maybe pop off the inspection cover by the flex and see if you can see it dripping from the back of the engine with a flash light.

fixing is cheaper then a new drivetrain lol

but what is more fun!!!

lol... 04+ install headers before install. put 3.4 on it and tune it. its just me dreaming a little. but, ive done crazier things.
