My 99 Grand Prix GT will sometimes kind of shudder while driving, when it does that the tach will drop to zero and the traction control light will come on, sometimes the check engine comes on too. Any ideas?? It is also slow to shift out of first gear, sometimes very slow, once it shifts it will work fine! Help appreciated

Well, the check engine light is trying to tell you something.

Without that code, we really don't know the problem.

Just at a guess here and because the tach dropping to zero is somewhat a common issue with the crank sensor, you might be dealing with that.

Next time it happens I will get the code scanned! Would a bad crank sensor also cause the trasmission to be slow to shift out of first? When the car sits for a few hours it will be slow to shift out of first gear, sometimes it will take a mile of driving for it to shift.

    Not usually..

And if you haven't been clearing the code, it may be stored in the pcm.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
