I am contemplating removing the sunroof assembly for multiple reasons...

    1) never ever use it
    2) I love weight savings of all kinds.. just makes for fun projects
    3) bored
    4) ....

    Has anyone done this?
How much does the assembly weigh total?
Where can I pick up a replacement panel? Lexan?

Any comments or suggestions, feel free! But, please don't tell me it's not worth it. It may not be, but I still want to get an idea of what it would take to accomplish and the potential weight savings

I am against doing this because I have rolled one over. You are talking about a Grand Prix, right? In the 97-03s, I don't think the assembly with glass is twenty pounds. I believe the glass weighs more than the reg with motor.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

you may save some weight with the motor and parts of the track off, but you either have to leave the track and arms that support the actual glass piece in place or you will have to figure out a way to put in a piece of lexan and have it supported and sealed. its not that fun to dick with these factory sunroofs though, you would need to drop the entire headliner to get at everything, those are a pain jut to get out of the car in general, the easiest way is through the windshield.
