Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
So after looking at page one again and seeing your pics I see you do have the WB sensor from the AEM kit and havn't installed it yet.
I think I was spot on in my last post and what you have going on is that the narrow band in the stock location in the rear manifold didn't get capped...they just left it there and unplugged it. The turbo kit changes the location of the stock narrow band and moves it to the downpipe and they just installed a new narrow band there without capping the rear manifold which is no big deal really seeing it's sealed.
You'll want to have a new bung welded in and installed a little futher down the downpipe andread your aem instuctions for best location for the wide band o2 sensor, maybe have the old narrow band thats in the rear manifold pulled and cap the bung hole while your at it.

Yes sir! you ARE spot on! (I think).
So, I do need the narrow band installed in the downpipe? Even with the cat delete?

yes. it should say how far down it should be in the install directions.
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
Yes leave your narrow band o2 in the downpipe connected, it's connected to your pcm...you need it. The turbo kit moved it's location to there, the old narrow band thats not connected in the rear manifold can be left there to seal the bung hole or may be removed and capped to tidy things up...up to you.
Refer to the pdf you got with the instructions on where to have a new bung for the Wide band o2 sensor for the AEM kit placed.
The wideband o2 sensor is strictly a tuning tool to tell you where your AFR is at it feeds nothing back to the PCM, the narrowband is what your car is running on and you must leave it connected.
Now back to your new exhaust I bugged you about previously...
Your car has already had the cat deleted and any codes for the Bank #2 o2 sensor that monitors the cat tuned out and removed and you have no emmisions testing in your area so why put a cat back on it unless your really worried about going green...lol
You don't want a cat converter on a turbo setup if you don't HAVE to have one on, it only hampers flow.Turbo cars will eat cat converters fairly quickly.
If I was you and wanted to install the new catbalk and mufflers you talked about previously I would cut the cat off and piece in some straight pipe there OR go one better and install an electric exhaust cutout in it's place... turbo cars love them!

Well, I WON'T install the new pipes with the CAT if it interferes with the way the turbo works. I needed all of the exhaust from front to back, and the CAT came with the deal.
Electric Exhaust? WTHeck Is that?
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
It's an Y pipe with an electronically controlled butterfly valve. Means you can have a nice quiet exhaust, and when you wanna go fast, you flip a switch, that butterfly opens up, and everyone can hear you, plus turbo's love them
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
So, I googled the exhaust cut out thing.........I think I'm going to just cut the cat and put a pipe in in it's place.........
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
Cash that cat in at the metal recyler if it's a stock GM...they're worth good money lol
The cat dosn't interfere with how the turbo works but without it your exhaust will flow better and your turbo spool times will be improved.
With an electronically controlled exhaust cutout(dump) in it's place which as mentioned above is just a Y pipe with a butterfly valve thats controlled from a switch in the car you will have wide open flow from the downpipe and even quicker spool times to help get the most performance out of the turbo setup.
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
I guess it's all about going fast. I told my son (who is the "owner" of the car) if he beats on it and blows it up, he'll be walking to school, so, I'm not interested in making it go faster, just want it to last for a couple of years.
My son drives very conservatively, so, I'm not too worried about that.
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
BTW, the car s getting 17-18 mpg mostly in town driving. we are ok with that.
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
Hes a conservative driver until he finds out that turbo setup can probably take most the cars in a highschool parking lot lol. Thats how I got into modding when I got my car at 17... The V8s could take me but them little n/a Hondas were puzzled haha.

That won't last lol... Turbo GP, and conservative driving just doesn't mix...

Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
his turbo is set @ 7, yes 7 psi. its a Conservative turbo set up for sure. it makes less boost then a stock gtp.
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
But it makes less knock and goes PSssshhh, so therefore more awesome.
I basically look at it this way. Teenage driver =/= conservative driver. They can be good drivers and such, but are too easily influenced by boobs and loud noises.

Are you implying that 7psi on a turbo and 7psi (~8psi for stock) on a m90 are the same thing?
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
not at all, it acts differently for sure, but its also not running 12 psi or more where the trans is gonna take a true beating.
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
assuming he doesn add more to it... but we all know how that goes...

Boobs and loud noises? You're KILLING me this morning! BWAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Since I'm the one putting gas in the car, I'm guessing, if he decides to "go fast", I'll see a major drop in mileage......
Re: AEM Air/fuel mixture gauge hook up
BTW, I'm assuming the arrow points to the turbo pressure adjust.
