I had to do this recently, I took some pictures of instructions I used.

It's a little tricky to remove it through the firewall, you have to squeeze the "tangs" together so it fits through, but they're recessed into the padded sound insulation so you can't really see what you're doing. Do remember if I did it with needle nose pliers or two small screwdrivers. I took off the pedal, too

Sorry, the closeup from the original isn't much better:

Basically there are two clips on each side, so when you're installing it they switch together so it fits through the hole, and once it's through they expand back out so you can't pull it back through. You get it out your squeeze the clips together and you can push it through, I used pliers I think. Couldn't really see well, just kind of stick them in there, squeeze and push, and it's it's not on the clips move the pliers a little. You should be able to see them if you look at your new cable

When installing you do it from the engine bay and pull it into the cabin, just pull it in the clips will lock it so it can't pull back out

Did manage to do this today as well, it was quite a pita. With the rubber insulation and the throttle pedal in the way and all the other dash bs it was quite difficult to get a bite on the clips. I ended up just taking the pedal out of the way, I got the pliers to bite, had Dan pull from the engine bay and she popped out. Mind you that was after a good few mins of the both of us trying to squeeze and push with the pliers.
