2003 GP GT that has stock (original) exhaust with the exception of a 2.5" ZZP downpipe w/o cat.

mufflers are deteriorated w/ holes and need to be replaced. is it worth replacing the entire exhaust (resonator, y-bend, muffers, tips)? do stock resonators fail / are they worth replacing? i'm not looking for performance gains or even a better "sounding" exhaust, just stock behavior.

i don't expect to have this car longer than another 5yrs, so is there any reason not to go with the lower-cost aluminum exhaust vs stainless?

i see this at ZZP: http://shop.zzperformance.com/Store/...spx?itemID=364
which is approx $450 after including resonator and muffler+tips.

i do not see any full kits over at rock auto, just individual components that would need to be welded together.

    thanks.

Short answer no replacing the whole exhaust is not necessary it won't outflow until you each around 300hp or so which you would probably never reach.

The ZZP exhaust is loud and a waste IMO. Just replace your mufflers (check out thrush similar to the stock mufflers and very cheapo) then decide if you want new exhaust tips (bling bling factor) and have a local shop weld them in for you and I just saved you a bunch of money. Stock resonator does go bad but unless it has holes or noticeable cracks I wouldn't worry about it unless you wanted to. Then go with with another one or a resonator.

i came close to buying one of those full cat backs. but wound up doing it all part by part as it all rusted out. thats a better price even with the shipping then anything local.

the mufflers are 100 each local, the res would be close to 100, the Y pipe is another 90. see all that savings?

hmm, is that just an error on the auction owners part? or is the 03 different than 92-02 with respect to exhaust?

finding systems that fit 01-03 so there can't be a lot of difference

i dont think theres a difference really. they are all priced about the same, search around for more stuff there. amazon also has some full cat backs too.

thanks for the input; i'll probably just do the muffler replacements then. any particular recommendations on that aspect, or just call the local shops and find whatever is lowest cost?

    low cost will be loud.

i got a walker stock replacement, its nice and quiet like i like it.

i paid less then 200 piecing mine together over time. made a res out of a glass pack, cost 40 bucks, the muffler was a 100, both bought local. the intermediate pipe i got on line for 37 shipped. local its 75 and up.

being i have a regal i got a single muffler set up. so things are a bit cheaper pipe and muffler wise.
