Model: Pontiac Grand Prix 2000, Miles: 233,419

I am going to have to go back and look at my past receipts but I believe that I have had the right front hub assembly replaced in the past due to a C0041 code before , which is the right front speed sensor/Circuit Range, Performance. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen(i have to go back and look at my receipts) but around Thanksgiving the ABS/Trac Off Light came on and found out before Christmas, after it continually came on that the code was C0041 and C0245 (wheel speed sensor malfunction). I am out of town so i went to Midas b/c my father in law has got a good relationship with the mechanic and said that i could trust them over there so i had them look at it.

They said that the abs right front harness had been burned due to not being installed properly in the past (perhaps when i got the sensor(i.e hub assembly) replaced the first time. So they replaced the front abs harness , drove it and the light didnt come on. I purposefully drove it for about a day and the light didnt come back on(In the past I could tell when the light was about to come on because you can feel/hear the abs computer module humming and working to try to resolve its issue with the sensor). On day 2 when i was driving it, i kid you not the light came on again, both the ABS and trac off light with the same codes C0041 and C0245.

So after new years I take it back into them, they do a diagnostic and he said that the only thing that it could be was the hub assembly needs to be replaced(since the sensor it part of the hub assembly) or the ABS computer module needs to be replaced. So in my mind I am thinking - "i am pretty sure that I have had this replaced before, but maybe since the harness was no good, perhaps the sensor was also burnt out as well). The mechanic said that without replacing the hub assembly there is no way to know whether it was the hub assembly or the ABS module. So being in a precarious situation and about to travel, i went ahead and had him replace it with a new right front wheel assembly. He drove it and the light came back on again with codes C0041. I asked him about the readings(resistance, etc) from the sensor and he said that they all came back fine.

So now that i have shelled out money for a hub assembly and a wire harness and still the problem isnt fixed I am wondering what course of action I should take. The mechanic said that he would look up a price for the ABS control module and call me tomorrow. One of the things that I did not ask him was if he tried resetting/reprogramming the ABS control module. I have read online that this has helped codes from coming back - perhaps the computer module has found itself in a bad state. I just got home from driving it. I drove it for a minute or so and then stepped on the brake. I felt the brake moving back and forth on you(like you dont have 100% brakes) and you can hear the computer module with a "humming" sound. After a few minutes of this the ABS turned itself off and the ABS & Trac OFF light came on.

The main question I have for you guys is, is why would I get a C0041, replace the wire harness, and the hub assembly and after all that, and then the same code continues to come on. If the ABS control module has gone bad why would I get a specific code for the right speed sensor? Is there not a code that says, "hey you have a bad abs control module"?.

I am desperate for a solution. I have not spent $157 on the wire harness and $279 on a front hub assembly (counting parts and labor) and no solution.

Thanks for all your thoughts/questions/comments in advance

sounds like the ecbm is bad. thats the co245 code. the other is a by product of its failure id think.

The C0245 just says "wheel speed sensor frequency malfunction"... which sounds like to me "the speed sensor is continuing to read bad. How is that related to the control module and why would it continually pick on the right speed sensor??

sorry i looked up wrong crap, looks like the right front and the left rear sensors are acting up.

have you checked the wires leading to these 2 hubs? how did they splice it? solder and shrink wrap or butt crimp on connectors? <those suck.

C0245 - Wheel Speed Sensor Frequency Error
C0041 - Right speed wheel sensor.

which code is for left rear??

well they replaced the wire harness only for the right front wheel. I have no idea how they spliced it. i wouldnt even know what to look for and to know if its done correctly. I am not a mechanic nor anywhere mechanically inclined...

these are butt connectors, they suck for any thing thats gonna get wet. if you see these id bet they are the problem.

    soldered wire. weather tight.

follow the wire from the hub over the lower control arm and to the body, look for one of these splice in the new harness to old. you'll have to take the wheel off.

Well i dont have the equipment to even take the wheel off. i dont know what i would need other than to lift the car and take the nuts off.

Even though i dont want to I am tempted to take it to the GM dealer just to get the diagnostic. They should have all the best tools to give me a definitive answer. I wont give them too much information just that I had a new wire harness put in. If they find that the wire hareness was put in wrong then I am going back to midas to get my $279 back for a hub assembly that i never needed in the first place (and i can see that i didnt now but the code would have come back if the harness was put on wrong). i probably should have went to the dealer anyway since its such a technical/mechanical issue.

a dealer will rape you on just scanning the car and looking at it.

what if you got a flat on the side of the road? could you not change a tire if need be? the cars stock jack works just fine, there should be a lug wrench back there too.

well i am put in a position now that they might have not put on the wire harness correctly. If, after i supposedly first got everything fixed, the ECBM was faulty why didnt the code pop up the first day of driving? It was only after the 2nd day that the code came back(per my original post). seems like the code would have tripped shortly after leaving the shop just like all the other times.

So i want to find out if they put it on correctly and even by looking at your screenshots if i was able to look at it I dont have the experience or knowledge to say definitively whether they are put on correctly or not...
