After replacing the SRS bulb in my recently acquired 99 GTP I've discovered my air bag light is on. It blinks 7 times and then stays on.

I know it was in an accident in the past, and checking the driver airbag I saw the bag connector was cut in the wheel and was twisted and taped back together, and the thing for the passenger side spliced behind the radio. Must have done it when putting new ones in, not sure why? I re-did them, did test the continuity of the driver side so I know the clock spring is good.

Is the only other option the module (SRS fuse is good)? I heard from the previous owner it did get wet from the previous owner, but when I peeled back the carpet it actually looked pretty clean and no signs of rust on the sheet metal, though the carpet is fairly stained (water or just dirty?).

Most likely you need a Tech2 or Snap On higher end scanner to reset the airbag module.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

you need to have it scanned to see what code its got. my car needed a clock spring and the srs module under the pass seat.

if the steering wheel radio controls dont light up or work the clock spring could be bad.

dont think you can reset that module, it needs to be replaced or sent out to be rebuilt.

when i had mine scanned, with a 7,000 dollar scanner lol it refused to reset. the light came back on as soon as he let the clear button go.

if you google air bag modules you'll find sites that repair our modules. used they are are like 20 bucks. or less from a junk yard.

I'm pretty sure my clock spring is ok, radio controls work and I did a continuity test at both ends on the airbag connectors and it was good. If it's something that gets set when it's in an accident you'd think whoever was fixing it and spliced in new airbags - I believe it may have been a small car lot - would have changed that as well, but judging by this and other poor quality fixes (and pulling bulbs for things that didn't work) who knows.

Sounds like cheapest path is just just get a replacement module, guessing getting it scanned costs more than $20.

Any thoughts as if it looks like it may be water damage?

when i fixed mine i had a bad clock spring, that code came back to open loop driver side. clock spring fixed that. then it got flooded and killed the module.

just remembered, if the old one in your pic there has any white corrosion around the edges clean that up and the metal floor so it grounds better, sometimes they can came back. also some can unscrew and open, if so open it and clean it up inside if theres more corrosion.

the one i used came from a junk yard. been in there for over a year, alls been good. mine was just dead from the water i guess.

under your drivers seat (plugged in with the seat power and the seat belt) may be another yellow plug, make sure its pluged in and the contacts are clean.
