2006 Grand Prix, base. 136k miles, problem free car. Absolutely love it. Recently though it has started making a weird noise coming from up close to the steering wheel. It's not real loud, but when you turn the wheel it just sounds like a rubber on rubber noise, or possibly some sort of plastic rubbing onto something. Any ideas at all? Still steers perfectly and smooth, just an annoying noise that I don't want to escalate.
I know I did I crappy job explaining it, hoping someone will have had the same thing though and know what Im talkin bout
    thank you all in advance

It's either the strut mount bushings/bearings or something wrong internally in the rack. Jack it up and tun the wheel side to side and see if you hear it with the suspension unloaded. If so have someone turn it and you'll find it.

I don't think its the strut mount bearing, from watching youtube videos that seems to always make a clunking noise, no? This isn't like that at all. It's just a constant real faint quiet rubbing noise when turning the steering wheel, just like something rubbing...hmmmm

Still try what I said. When I turn my wheel even with it up in the air, it makes a squeaking noise. There has been so many people posting about this noise lately, I keep wanting to get a video of mine.

Most likely it is were the steering shaft runs through the firewall. You should be able to lube the area with some WD40. You can remove the lower cover on the drivers side by the brake and gas pedal and see the area. You should be able to touch the rubber boot while turning the steering wheel to confirm that is where the noise is coming from. It is possible it is a bearing in the column, but I would lube the pass through boot first.
