I have a 2001 Grand Prix GT and just noticed the other day that the check engine light isn't lighting at all when I turn the key. I have an emission test in a few months and know I need to take care of this before I take it in. It's probably not a bulb replacement, right?

If the CEL doesnt show up when you turn the key on right away, the bulb likely burnt out.

id take the car to a parts store, have it scanned for codes, if theres nothing, then you are safe to hit inspection.
