Right now im running pypes racepros but they're way too loud and i think they sound too ricey and very cheap. I saw a Thunderbird sc with flowmasters on it and it sounded great. I want something quiet bot not too restricting. Any ideas or even sound clips? Thanks, Rich

If you want quiet and not really restricting then stock is the way to go.

Stock is the way to go...unless you have the money for Corsa/Borla. The 3800 will have rasp at some point with just about any muffler/exhaust you put on. I have Glasspacks and they sound pretty good @ idle and in the lower rpm's, but they have rasp around 4000 or so.

I run Borla mufflers and they are the best sounding on these cars in my opinion. Now, considering everyone probably has their own opinion on what the best sound is, my opinion might not mean much.

But I bought these mufflers for around $80 each from Wicked Nicky's Exhaust on Ebay. But you can check his website out as well, as linked above.

The mufflers I am running are listed here.

    Borla Pro XS Muffler - 2 1/2" offset inlet / 2 1/2" center outlet (a)2 1/2" inlet dia (b) 2 1/2" outlet dia (c)14" shell length (d)4" shell height (e)9 1/2" shell width #40358
    Nicky's Price: $74.00
And these are stainless mufflers, million mile warranty, and one of the best sounding in my opinion. I had a local muffler shop mandrel bend some stainless tubing for the rest of the exhaust, and have a complete SS exhaust system for around $550. Not bad IMO.

From my experience, you can get our cars to sound good at idle. But anything over 1800 rpms and you are going to get drone with a lot of mufflers. And a lot of mufflers will give you rasp at WOT.

I have flo pro's but they drone pretty bad from 1800-2200 rpm I vote for Borla or Corsa as well.

The exhaust on mine is a flowmaster set up, sounds great on the low RPMs no drone, but at WOT all i hear is engine, i ran Magnaflows on my tbird, even though it was an 8 the Magnaflows sounded Sick, had a lot of heads turning, its really just preference, depends on what you want to do to the exhaust, keep it 2-1-2 or duals all the way back, having 2 pipes will really change the tone and you may want to use a different brand of muffler, i had a flowmaster cat back, then opened it up with 2 pipes, didnt like the sound so i went to the mags and it was perfect. If i had the money i would put Headers, Magnaflow cats, H- Pipe and dualies out to the back with Twin Mags or SLP Mufflers, that would sound really good.

I dunno why, when i had the flows on my old bird the drone on the Hwy was horrible, but i dont know if its that the exhaust has burned though and its just worked in, or maybe i just like the tone, the trone on my 03 mazda 6 was terrible, but the GP i dont hear it, it just sounds good imo.
