Single muffler (Non glass pack) on a dual exhaust?

I've spent time searching through the forum trying to find out if it's possible to run a single actual muffler on a dual exhaust...yes I'm a cheap ass, I'm just looking to find a way to run a single Flowmaster series 10 or Super 44. I can have a custom exhaust built, but I don't know where I could put it, possibly somewhere around the trunk pan, but I'm not sure. It's be cool if I could get some help with this, and if anyone's done it?

I think a single chamber would be too loud. Are you planning on running a resonator? If it were me I would use a 3 chamber single in dual out and just have pipes run from the muffler to the exhaust outlets or tips or whatever you desire.

A. you dont have dual exhaust

B. custom exhaust is way more money than a prebent dual OUT system

C. Going custom any single in dual out muffler will work, hence older camaros. Example flowmaster 80 series

It's just like the SE 3800's.

Flowed probably just as well, lighter too.

Just doesn't look as symetrical.

As for sound? Good luck with any Flowmaster product.

No, I'm looking to run a single muffler, and keep both tips. I'm just cheap. I might go with a borla pro XS tho. I already have dual exhaust too, and I'm going up to 2.5"

I'm swapping mufflers for resonators in my GXP.

Long, bullet style SLP is going where the factory resonator was.

If you must run a single muffler, this would probably be the best way:

1. Cut your exhaust where it splits (at the Y). Basically cut off one of the pipes going to a tip.

2. With a piece of metal, weld up opening in Y to block off the opening. Tack weld the pipe you cut off back on for looks.

3. Install muffler on the side that was not cut off and blocked.

Now you have a single muffler which will quiet all functional exhaust. The other side will still be there for looks, but will not move any gas.


That said, I'd personally spring for the 2nd muffler.

OP, you say you are cheap and don't want to replace both mufflers, but you want to go single muffler and keep the dual tips, which would involve re-designing the rear portion of the exhaust, which would be more than replacing two mufflers. You see where I am going?

I'm only out the cost of the muffler tho, as I can bend and weld it all myself. I kinda like the resonator idea tho, but I would like to find a chambered round muffler.

I don't know of any chambered round muffler/resonators. Depending on your skills you could always build your own. I have thought about doing it myself.
