Hello all, When I bought my 2004 GTP the dealership had lost the keys and fobs so I never had them for this car. So I bought some from a store on ebay that claimed the programming was included. Needless to say the instructions for programming they had given me didn't work. I've been told by some that I need to go to the dealership to have it done with a tech 2. I used to work for a chevy dealership and I know alot of the new 04, 05, and 06 models I could do without the tech 2 but I can't remember how I did it. Does anybody know if there is a way to do it without paying through the nose to have the dealer do this for me? Thanks for your help or any attempts to help ahead of time. I appreciate it.

i also purchased a spare key on ebay that claimed to come with programming instructions. keep in mind mine is a 2001

the instructions said to get the key cut first, (obviously) then you take your current key, put it in the ignition, turn the ignition to the RUN position, the position its in when your driving, then take that key out and put the new key in within 15 seconds and turn the ignition to the RUN position again. your new key should be ready! the instructions that came with mine said my alarm light would blink twice to confirm the new key was programmed but it never lit up throughout the entire process, and the new key works flawlessly

Yeah unfortunately those are the instructions they sent me but they don't work for my car. The 04 and up don't have a bcm prgrm fuse to remove. Thanks for your help but it won't work.

On all 00+ Impalas and Montes you go through the vehicle customization settings until you get to "KEY FOB" or something like that. Then you take it from there.

try this for your remote fob

    Document ID # 397060
    Transmitter Programming

    No Tools Required

In the event that a transmitter is lost, program the old and the new transmitters into the memory of the remote control door lock receiver. Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed.

    Important

Once the keyless entry receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode, the programming of the first
transmitter erases all previous transmitter programming information. You must then program all of the
    transmitters.

Program only 1 vehicle remote control door lock receiver at a time. If you program multiple receivers simultaneously, the same transmitter could possibly be programmed to more than 1 remote control door lock receiver.

    Perform the following steps:

    1. Sit in the vehicle driver's seat.
    2. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
    3. Close all of the vehicle's doors.
    4. Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the fuse panel. Refer to Electronic Diagnosis in Body and Chassis.
    5. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ACC position.
    6. Turn the ignition lock cylinder OFF, then back to ACC within 1 second.
    7. Open and then close any vehicle door. You will hear a chime when the remote control door lock receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode. If you do not hear a chime, start again at step 1. If the remote control door lock receiver does not enter the programming/diagnostic mode after a second attempt, refer to Electrical Diagnosis.

    Important

After 7 seconds you may hear a chime confirming successful synchronization. After approximately 14 seconds, you will hear a chime confirming successful programming.

    8. Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
    9. Repeat step 8 in order to program each additional transmitter.
    10. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
    11. Install the MALL PGM fuse back into the fuse panel. Refer to Electrical Diagnosis in Body and Chassis.

Validate that all the transmitters that were programmed operate properly. Refer to Keyless Entry System Operation .

that is for 97-03 models, 04+ most likely you will need to go to the dealership for programming of transmitters

This is used to add a "duplicate" key (have original)
    1) Insert the "Original" (working) Key.
    2) Turn the Ignition to ON (RUN), but do NOT start the engine. Turn the Ignition OFF and remove the key.
    3) Within 15 seconds insert the new "duplicate" key and turn the Ignition to the ON position. The Security indicator should light for about 2 seconds to indicate that the new key has been programmed.
    4) The new key should now be able to start and run

this does work, it is for a pk3 key
