ok i know where the mass air flow sensor in in area but there are 3 sensors there which one is it? i wanted to take it off before i got the new one since there is a core charge. i am just not sure which sensor is the mass air flow. also if it is the ones with the screw that appear to be torx with a piece in the middle is that a special kind of torx bit?

Yes, it is the one with the safety/security torx. It's the black module that mounts to the top of the throttle body. Click on the pic for a larger view.

you can buy the bits or use a hack saw or dremell to cut a straight line across the screw head, then use a flat head screw driver.

If you want the correct tool, this is what I bought and has a good set of security torx in it. I've used it to take my MAF off once.

2006 Grand Prix GT S/C 109k - Modded Transgo Shift Kit, Gutted Airbox, Dash Cam, and Inlays. Retros soon to come.

    Sold.

If you don't have the dremel or a hacksaw, or the funds to get the correct bit set I have in the past been able to get the edge of small cold chisel (or a flat screwdriver you don't care about) on the post in the middle of the torx bolt and gently pop it bending it to one side. Don't beat it like it owes you money, just a few taps from a hammer and it should bend enough to be grabbed with a pair of needle nose pliers, worked back and forth and popped off. Then just use a standard torx bit to remove it.

I take no responsibility for a bad MAF, lol.... just sayin.

Some decent hardware store carries multi bits kit that has close to 40 different size and types of security bits. Works with standard 1/4" driver. I have a couple of them (one is always missing when I needed it but with 2, one's always around when I need it )
