    What car, year etc etc.

If its saying reduce engine temp, was it starting to overheat???

You said the check engine light came on, so its thrown a code. You'll need that code(s) to help figure out whats wrong with the car.

have you checked for fuel and spark?

the fuel rail has a valve on it, push it in see if fuel sprays out, it will spray, cover it with a rag, then push the pin.

then pull plug wire off the coil, hold or prop it 1 inch or less over the coil, then crank the engine, you want to see a spark jump to the plug wire from the coil.

if you can gat it run again, get it scanned asap, the code will tell a lot of the story and lead you in the right direction.

reduced temp maybe a bad temp sensor, its under the t stat. where the upper rad hose meets the engine.

what year is the car? is it n/a or s/c?

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

How about a Little more detailed info.
    I personally own 2 GTPS.

I would start by looking at the MAF.
