Got a 97 gtp 2 door that was wrecked and I went to the junkyard today and got a drivers door and when i went to put it on I noticed the wiring harness plug in is completely different than mine. Must be off a later model grand prix. The door i got has just one big plug and my old door has to one big and one small. What will I have to do to make this door work? woud it be best to just pull the doors apart and swap all the wiring? how hard will that be? Any other suggestions.

Don't see any replies yet, its a difficult problem to solve. I'm having the same issue only worse because its a four door car. I have a post going as well hoping for some help. If I can get the wiring diagrams for the good door then I'm going to rip apart the old junk door and trace the wires, grab some motors/actuators while in there too. Once I have that done I can determine whats what and solder on the connector properly. Have you had any luck? Swapping the wiring is a messy job.

why not gut the wires and all from the old door, then put it in the new door, now the plugs fit and no re wiring is needed.

that rubber boot comes off too. where the wires run through to the door from the car.

thats the last resort because you have to strip the door and break all those clips in the process. If no one can help I may have to do just that.

you mean the inside door panel? thats easy to get off, find the few screws, then just pop the clips holding it down, start at a bottom corner.

once the panel is loose, pull the door handle so it will slide out the panel, then lift up, if you have lights on your door go slow, un hook the wires to the lights, and window switches and so on.

now that the panel is off all the wires are easy to see and un hook.

do the same to the new door, remove its wires, then swap the wires over, window switches locks and so on as needed. this way you can also keep your factory door panel, as it should match better too. unless your is beat up good.

all thats in there is the wires to the lock actuator, the power window regulator, the master window switch power mirror wire, and if you have door lights one more plug.

This is an older thread, but was just gonna say pulling the door harness out and
swapping it isn't that hard. We just did that with my son's 2001 Grand Prix GT
when we swapped doors. The wiring harness was different - the one on his car
was a single large plug with a lock, while the older door (98 model) had 2 plugs.

We just swapped them out - its really not that bad.

Yeah thats what I did. Just pulled the panel off and swapped all the wiring inside the door. Wasn't hard at all. Everything plugs up the same inside the door.
