    Just got a call from the dealer. Said PCM is toast. Said a new one will be in on Monday at a cost of 800+. I asked him if I could get a used one and I was told that a used one cannot be reprogrammed with my VIN. So it won't work. How true is that? On one side I am thinking just get the new one because that most likely will clear up my ABS/Stability/TC issue. But a used PCM can usually be bought for about $100. What says ye?

    Sorry that was $800+ for parts, labor and diagnostics. Diagnostics was $145 alone. They wave the diagnostics fee if I have them fix the car. But still it is near $700 for the PCM

    You could always just get a tuned PCM from one of the vendors and save yourself a bunch of money.

    you got nighthwk12 in that area of nj, pretty sure i heard hes got htp tuners. i know you can put your vin in used pcm. people do it all the time. or they would fail inspection.

    shoot Nighthwk12 a pm, maybe he can help you out. pretty sure you just need the used one re flashed with your vin.

    dealership wont do this, as its not good for their pocket.

    **UPDATE** Okay who's a dumbass? That would be me. Dealer hooked up new computer and nothing. So they put the old one back in. Searched and found a snipped data wire right where I spliced in the ABS wire harness. I feel stupid and my bank account agrees (ouch). But alas the car is running again. Also had them scan the car to find the ABS fault. Front left bearing. Bought the bearing now to get my son to give me the car for a few hours. I am making him install it as I have done quite a few of these on my old Cadillac and don't really feel like doing it. But I will be there instructing him.

    best he gets the hands experience himself, so repairs dont blow his mind. kids today dont fix stuff like we used to.

    snipped wire, yeah that blows, but its found and running again now. not much you can do about it now. shrug it off. do a hub next..lol

    Scotty not sure how old you are but I am 47. It is amazing the difference between my generation and my kids generation. I didn't have cell phones, video games, iPods, etc when I was growing up. When I was in the car I either fought with my sisters or I paid attention to what Dad was doing while driving. That got me interested in the whole "car guy" thing. Teaching kids to drive today is very difficult. They lack any knowledge when it is time to start. They have paid zero attention to what is going on while in the car. This trickles down to have zero interest in auto repairs. I am trying to get him interested but it is a struggle. But I will be persistent. He believes that I will live as long as him and that when he needs car work done I will always be there. LOL

    Im 45 right there with ya. i learned how to drive 4 speed when i was 13 just by watching.

    did all my own repairs out of necessity. high school kids in the 80's went to the junk yard for parts if mom and dad weren't paying for the repairs.

    hell i bought all my cars, and insured them myself, no help. think they would pay a repair bill, not a chance. so i had to go to the library and take out chiltons manuals. i think i blew my dads mind when he came home from work one day and the engine was on a hoist swinging over the front of my truck. all he said is, that had better run when your done, lol

    I had no help from my Dad either. And Chilton's was a bible back then. You know with no computers or internet in every house. Amazing how things change. Wanna know how to do something? Ask the guy at the auto parts store. Most of them were pretty good mechanics. Nowadays not so much. Although I love the memories of the "old days" I will take the modern technology any day and twice on Sunday. Which you couldn't get any parts on back in the day.
