Honestly the ic makes the gen3 a better option performance wise but the genV will fit on that i/c and make more power..... idk. Personally I dont like the gen3 blowers anymore so I would just get a genV and get a new core.
It's been shown and proven that a Gen V will sit on most Gen 3 cores and still work well. Sure there's an area that gets blocked, but the cooling benefit appears to be solid.
Bill, didn the test show there was so little difference in the cores affect in regards to the blocked area that it was almost nothing? I need to find that test again. Because, iirc, they compared the genV core to the gen III core with a genV blower on both and there was almost no difference at all in regards to performance...
So, if I can trade the Gen 3 core for a Gen5 core for little cost it "may" be worth it but.....not more than $50-$100? I'll probably stick with the Gen 3 core with a Gen 5 blower. I'd love to see the study though, seems interested.
The worlds fastest M90 FWD w-body used a Gen III IC Core with a Gen V blower.
I was always of the understanding that a hogged out gen 3 was basically identical to a stock gen V. If the inlet has been worked on that gen 3 I would use that. But inlet size really isn't gonna be a big issue when you mate a stock l67 TB up cause that will be the limiting factor unless your going with a N*. Also nobody has mentioned the added cost of a TB adapter if you pick a gen V which adds anywhere from $50-100 to the cost of the swap.
So a hogged out gen 3 90 cubic inch blower is how much less efficient than a 90 cubic inch gen V? Porting a gen V has shown minimal to no gains, while porting a gen 3 has shown measurable gains. And if they start off only 20hp appart in stock form I don't see how they could be THAT far appart once gen 3 is ported. I have heard a bit about outlet temps still being a bit higher with the gen 3 though if that's what your referring to? Maybe you could enlighten us all a little with some facts instead of just saying that's wrong???

"hogging out" an inefficient 90 cubic inch blower does not necessarily make it just as good as another more efficient 90 cubic inch blower. The inlet/rotor design of the genV is more efficient and will always push more, cooler air than even the best ported genIIIs (which is why most have to pulley up when switching). With a simple, mostly stock setup, the added efficiency wont be as noticeable. But, when you get down to sub 3.0s, thats where the added efficiency shows the most. Do I have any measured data on that? Not off hand, but I have experience in the switch from a well ported genIII to a genV.... Huge difference...

The series 3 makes 20 more hp than the series 2. The series 3 has the genV and the series 2 has the genIII. The genV must be 20hp more efficient than the genIII.
^^^^ flawed logic... you cant just say 2 blowers are "20hp apart" simply by the power output of the engine they are on.
So which gaskets do I need then? Gen 3 or 5?
