I currently have a Spectre oiled filter hooked up to my MAF sensor tube for a short ram intake. It runs and sounds amazing. Much better than stock, no doubt about it. I also have a foot of intake tubing(4" with clamps) so I COULD move the filter around if I wanted. Would it be benefical to make a fender well intake or move the filter at all? Or is it fine where it is? I don't race or anything, just enjoy modding for myself. So a quarter mile time isn't a huge deal for me. I would like the best throttle response and full range of power. What are your opinions? Some pictures would be great too if you think something other than a short intake would be better.

Being N/A you would want to get as cool of air as possible.

Likely you have done something similar to these... http://www.grandprixforums.net/spect...get-78057.html

Which is simple and functional for most, but for NA I would suggest going the extra mile and pushing for something like this is you are interested...http://www.grandprixforums.net/make-...ke-fwi-20.html

    1. I used white lithium grease to help the PVC pipe fit onto the rubber elbows.
    2. A 1/2 inch drill bit works perfect for making the hole in the intake that air sensor plugs into.
    3. When I got my PVC pipe I could only get it in a 10 foot length. I got mine at Men@rds and even though it was 10 feet in length it was still only $7.00.
    4. I used a 12" conical air filter so I had to modify the instructions slightly. 14" for the longest piece, two 45 degree elbows, and a second 3 inch section.

I hope this helps anyone else who is thinking of doing this. With this communities help and little elbow grease its amazing what you can do.

It is my opinion that you want some straight pipe before the MAF on the 04+ cars. I think it helps the MAF to get a more accurate reading. But, that is a completely untested theory.

Very informative with good intake and pictures. So going with a closed off fenderwell intake would be the best set up for a NA car? I will look into that. Thanks!

Didn't look at that. Just figured that since he was talking about a MAF housing, he must have an 04+.

mine ran better after I hooked about 6" of pvc in between the maf and filter instead of just having the filter off the maf.

When someone says, "Mine ran better after I did ......", I usually don't take them seriously.

You referring to the 98 or your new one, when you say mine?

We have established a general consensus that with boosted cars more air > restricted cold air, but not being boosted should get as cold of air as possible. Short rams work to get more air in, but its still only going to suck in as much as the motor and suck lol, sounded dirty But its true, the big difference is the cooler denser air.

Just up to the owner, how you want to run it.
