Is a 2002 grand prix 3.1 trans the same as a 2002 3.8 motor grand prix?

Been looking all over and I'm confused. I know sometimes the plugs are In different spots but I need an idea of what will work. I have a trans from a 2001 se 3.1 grand prix. Just trying to figure out what else it will fit. I take it its a 4t60e?

But some threads I found say they will not work...

If your engine is the 3.1L it's the 4T60E: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_4T60-E_transmission

From 2000+ it is the 4T65E

The article says 1993-1999 Pontiac Grand Prix "GT" 3800 V6 (L36 Motor). The 4T60 was a terrible tranny btw.

    4T65E:
    1998-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix V6 3.1 L/3.8 L
    1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.4 DOHC V6

    4T60E:
    1993-1999 Pontiac Grand Prix "GT" 3800 V6 (L36 Motor)

Up to 99 some cars with the 3.8L had the 4T60E. My buddy's 98 has the 4T60E

the 97 grand prix never had a 3.4. Your friends 98 was probably a early 98 for it to have the 4t60

The only 6th gen GP to ever have a 4t60 was the 97 se and gt. Also the only engines were the 3.1 (Bleh) and the l36 (N/a) and l67 (M90 woooo)

We recently covered this in another thread and someone posted the links on which was what. 3.1 kept the 60 a lot longer.

Search on me and learned something
