My 2006 GXP seems to stick in park after sitting for a few hours (overnight or while I'm at work) . The car has 40,000 miles on it and the problem started recently. The problem is not experienced when the car has been recently driven. It starts perfectly by remote or with the key. I shift the transmission from Park to Drive or Reverse and I don't notice the typical clues that are expected and indicate that the car is ready to move; no change in engine noise or the feel through the brake pedal that results from the drive line connecting with the wheels. If I apply just a little throttle i hear a single or double thump sound and then it is ready to go. No further problems are observed. I had this problem when the car was still under warranty and was told that something was adjusted ( I regret not pressing for details). What ever they did seemed to correct the problem but now it is back and since this is a repeat offender I want to know more precisely what is going on.

    Thanks for the quick responses.

My motorhead days are long gone so this car has always been serviced by the dealer from which I purchased it. I'm pretty careful about maintaining the car because I have bonded with it. It a 2006 and only has 40,000 miles, is completely stock, and I love the sound of the V8.

The question about servicing the transmission was a good one. I checked my records and the transmission and power steering systems were serviced at 34,000 miles. I has 40K on the Odometer now.

The question about transmission slip is also a good one since my research on this problem has revealed that that is a common symptom of transmission failure. Once I get the car is moving it seems totally normal. I haven't noticed any "slipping-like" symptoms.
