I found a really cool trick that made me very happy. During the cold Chicago winters, it is common to have snow on the roads.

In my Camaro I would go "drifting" (More like do donuts and/or have the rear end spin out on turns) and this was allot of fun for me. I actually got really good at it. I never one hit anything or had any problems for that matter.

Now that my GP is fwd, I cannot really have the same effect as my RWD car had. Since the E-Brake as a foot pedal this could make my drifting days pretty much gone. The problem I had with the foot ebrake was that you would push it in and it would click and not allow you to disengage the brake without pushing it in further thus putting more pressure on the brakes and causing an accident.

I HAVE A SOLUTION! Its free too!

One day I was messing around and I noticed that after you engage and then disengage the E brake, you can move it freely (Up,down, and finally back into its resting state).

    ************************************************** ***********************************************
    For example:

Bring the car to a complete stop. Engage the E Brake until it clicks and hold firm

Disengage the E brake but do not let it go back into its resting spot. Continue driving but be sure to not move your foot.
    ************************************************** ***********************************************

Get familiar with the way it moves. There is a spot (about half inch before it back into resting state) when you can disengage it and drive normally. Keep you foot in that position and when you need the rear end to lock up, simply press it for as long as you need to. Release and your traction is back (hopefully)

Obviously this is not a GREAT idea, but it can be fun. To be honest I have never really experimented with it so I do not know how much a "beating" the rear end can take.

Yep do that all the time in the winter, makes driving to school a little more exciting. Although you can't really drift with our FWD it's fun to swing the back end around and pretend lol. I can keep my car's back end slid out while still going forward in my lane for quite a while, it's pretty fun.

Enjoy changing out your parking brake shoes and putting on new rear rotors when you crack them.

I wouldn't think using the parking brake on snow or ice would cause that much wear on the shoes and rotors, using it on pavement and gravel I could see that happening though.

I dont have any problems an i have been slidin mine the past 3 winters an havent had to change out the shoes and i used my parking break every time i park too. Right now i only even have one side though cause i backed the other side all the way off so it doesn't engage due to the cable sticking. I suppose that could be related but unlikely as that started happening in the middle of the summer. im currently waiting for my new cable to come from gtx.

You're right that ice won't do it as much, but I watched it happen the second time the guy did it. He was like "Hey, I just figured out how fun this is. Watch this!" Pop, bang!

Far from the only occurrence either.

HA that would be upsetting if it happened but sometimes fun has its costs and consequences.

Bingo, and I feel it's important that people know what those consequences can be so they make an informed decision. Much better than them coming back crying "Well you didn't tell me."

    Gotta pay to play.

The name is familiar, but I've only been in the comm/nav back shop once. Don't really know them too well. I'm flightline ECM.

haha i remember when i had my old 92 camaro i used to go out "snow drifting" with my brother. good times, didnt even need to use the ebrake or anything, just let off gas and cut it that was enough weight transfer.
