Hi all, I'm new here. I have a 2008 Grand Prix Base model with a v6. I've been researching about modding the exhaust by installing a new muffler or deleting the resonator, cats, muffler etc. But I can only seem to find sound clips of v8 Grand Prix's. I don't want to create an unpleasant gurgling sound, just a deeper tone than stock. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

    Search a little harder.

There are a million threads on 3800 exhaust. They all will pretty much say that only borla, and maybe dynomax/dynoflow? mufflers and the stock setup sound the best.

Chambered style mufflers like magnaflow and flowmasters will drone and make you hate it.

Lol true unless you have a resonator and there more bearable.

I've been watching sound clips of modded exhausts on YouTube. Its hard to find a 3800 with a modded exhaust that isnt supercharged.

I don't think the supercharger changes the exhaust note. It's all personal preference. Go on YouTube and search gtp Flowmaster, gtp Magnaflow, gtp Borla, etc.

Summit racing turbo mufflers. Hands down the best sounding muffler for a GP. A little louder and deeper sounding than stock, but not raspy and obnoxious when you get on it.

Dynomax Super Turbo's are great as well.

Or, toss a stupid huge cam in there and every muffler will sound good.

Also, blower 3800's sound just as bad as N/A 3800's. So, all the videos will apply.

I REALLY like how mine came out. 00 GT: HV3, OE exh manis, 2.5" d/p, ubend del, res del, h/f cat, OE mufflers. I'll link you via PM to my FB vid of the thing idling so you can hear what a mildly modded GT can sound like. I set all my stuff to Friends Only, so I don't expect you to be able to watch the 15-30 second vid...but I can try.

Anything 3800 sounds great at idle.

No resonator 3800 anything except turbo cars sound like crap.

    Truth.

Can't hide it even with stock mufflers. Especially stock mufflers. Sounds like a cat choking on something.

2000 GTP exhaust no resonator - YouTube Getting rid of the cat doesn't really do much either, just makes the tone a little deeper.

Stock mufflers with a resonator delete as well, rasp.

Grand Prix GTP resonator delete - YouTube

Every GP NEEDS a resonator, it's not really an option for a somewhat desirable exhaust note.

And well, if you like that noise...then more power to you. I put a resonator back in my car after a Honda guy told me it sounded worse than his.

Well in my case with the magnaflows, my car sounded like a 4cyl cobalt or something with res and no cat, SD headers. Got a cat put in place n no res, and now it sounds like a ****ty 3800. But it sounds far better than it did with the resonator, and not even louder with drone. Pretty changed the tone of it. But i will sound, our cars sound "decent" with after market stuff at idle, cammed, or under 2k rpms.

Both of my Cobalt's have had less rasp than most 3800's out there. It's all in the setup.

I've had stock, Blowmaster, straight pipe, Magnaflow, Turbo's (mufflers), Purple Hornies, Glass Packs, and several on multiple V8 and V6 cars. Each BRAND of car is different. Other then a nice stock setup, the Turbo's would be one step up from stock with your stock resonator or large "resonator substitute". Next would be Borla.

On my personal cars I run Magnaflow on my Firebird and Borla on my GP. Really pleased with both brands

If you put Blowmasters on, grab you a flat brim hat and get you some spinning hubcaps cause you'll sound like a botched up ricer...
