Well, I do like to push my car to the limit. I was driving and peeled out of a neighborhood and when I took my foot off the gas the car made a weird noise and kept accelerating put my foot to the brake and pulled the e-brake and the RPM's were moving like crazy so I turned it off. Turned it back on and now it's fine.

Any idea's on what the hell happened?!

I'm no expert but if i had to take a guess I would say its something in the pcm,is your check engine light on? if so is it staying on or flashing on and off? I would take the car somewhere and get it scanned for dtc's (diagnostic trouble codes) and go from there.

Wow, not to take lightly but two things come to mind... First, do you drive a Toyota?? LOL no that's not it..

Second, lets see how many movie buffs are out there... "Push in the cluth and let the SOB blow, it's over Cole"..

Ok back to reality... I had a throttle cable stick before and did something like that.. When you took your foot off the gas, did you feel the pedal come up with your foot? I know you were under a lot of stress at the time, but thought I'd ask. If not, then yeah what Country said if your SES/CEL light is on check it.

So, cool, the car's been made fun of. Super helpful.

I'd have to agree that we're looking at a throttlebody that's been stuck open. There could be an issue with the plate, the throttle cable... check on the mechanism for it on the ide of the tb, make sure the cable runs clean without obstruction. Screw around with it in park, see what turns up.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

I had similar problem on my GTP-- turned out that the throttle plate got wedged against the cross bar in my maf. I had been doing some cleaning under the hood and must of pushed the maf too for onto the t/b. Didn't realize there was very little clearence between the parts.

Grand AM won't have a maf in the TB, at least not on a 3.1/3100.

I'd say it's likely time for a TB inspection like the guys have mentioned. Maybe a cleaning. Check the cables if if you notice the RPM raising on their own at stoplights, check the TPS. When bad, they can surge/make the engine rev up.

Then likely the issue is between the steering wheel and the seat. Or.. maybe a floor mat.

It's funny when I was 17, I couldn't afford to drive badly. It took a few years and a granny car before I drove badly. By then general experience and intelligence had caught up to me.
