    I seem to be having issues with my alternator output when i have my heat on and i slow down the heat almost stops so i was wondering if you are able to put an over sized alternator on my car and if so where and what size do i need top look for??? I do have subs but it is only a 500 watt amp and i have a cap so that shouldn't affect it to much right?? thanks for the help everyone

    I hate to state the obvious, but if you know it to be an alternator output issue, why not just replace it with a new one? Or are you wanting a higher output alternator just to have more cushion room?

    I dont know what model year to look for, but Ive been told that the Bonneville Alternators are a higher output than is the Grand Prix's. So that may be a way to get a bit more output.

    I dont know a lot about high powered audio systems, but regardless of whether or not you have a capacitor on there or not, that power still has to come from somewhere. All the capacitor does is give a 'reserve' to the audio system so that your amp doesnt drop out during peak demands, but that cap has to be replinished and its still tied to your electrical supply.

    Maybe someone will step in here and help out with what year Bonneville to look for.

    Theres also the Alternator Rewire kit and Alternator voltage booster from ZZP. I have both, the only thing it really changed is my windows go up faster. I don't think its going to make a big enough difference to help your problem but I just thought I would mention it.

    just replace the alternator...... they do go bad.......

    Yeah, and or get a Lifetime Alternator like me. When you suspect ANY issues, replace it, its free! I actully purposely replace mine every couple years. I like having a newer alternator all the time. I never get questioned. I make up something and get a new one, simple as that.

    Yeah as mentioned above, it is possible that your alternator is bad, you can get it checked while it is still in the car, take it to a place like Auto Zone and they will check the alternator, battery and the starter for free. Also from my experience when a battery starts to go bad (I suspect this is your problem) it will make the alternator work harder and in short notice you have a bad alternator. Make sure to check all of your connections and the battery terminals as they could be corroded and might need cleaning (makes better contact).

    when you put the alt rewire on did you leave the factory heavy wire on the alt? I thot it would of replaced that wire but ZZP said to run both. I suppose you would have to cut the boot off the factory wire and wrestle both on the post?

    I haven't looked close at it yet so I'm fishing for what I'm facing.

    You know a friend did my alt rewire while I was putting on the throttle body spacer. We did leave both wires on i do know that. I will take a look at it tomorrow and PM you though.

    Q: Is the 4 gauge alternator power cable kit intended to replace the factory alternator cable and have me removing the factory cable?

    A: No. We recommend leaving all original alternator and fuse box wiring attached. These redundant wires will only add to the power handling capability and will not cause any problems with the charging system or vehicle electrical system.
