Engine Re-fresh?

So here is my question. If you take a good running L67 motor with let's say 92k on her. Would I be able to let's say disassemble the block and throw all new rod bearings and a new main and throw new piston rings oil pump with maybe a touch hone if needed. Would that be worth it to do especially if this is a motor on the side? And would that help the longevity of the motor? Or is that just stupid? Thanks guys.

Send the block to the machine shop first, and have a manual with all the correct specs and it will last more than 100 miles in most cases.

So even if I purchase a new crank along with it a machine shop still needs to be involved? I just never ventured into the mystic botoom of these blocks or any for that matter. What would a machine shop actually do? I'dont understand the whole idea of specs when most of this stuff will be new on an already good running no knock motor. Thanks man

Leave it alone. You've got about 200k miles left on it before you need to worry about anything.

after cleaning everything a shop should start with a crack check, then retorque the mains and measure the main line. then measure the cylinder bore for taper/out of round. then they should retorque the rods and measure the crank journal bore and measure the piston skirts to make sure they have not collapsed.

now what do you want out of the engine ??

if all you need is a touch hone/replace rings and bearings, that should be fairly cheap. Now if you buy a new crank you still need to measure all your main and rod clearences. New parts dont allways fit as well as you would think

imo.. probly better spending that money to freshen up the heads.
