Thread: trans cooler line leaking

I noticed something oily at the bottom of my radiator and its transmission fluid...on further inspection it looks like the bottom cooler line is leaking where it goes into the radiator. It looks a bit rusty about an inch back from the fitting before the bend. Can I just purchase a new fitting or do I need a new line? How do I remove the line from the radiator?

You'll have to get a whole new line. And the fitting just unscrews from the radiator. I'd pull the line off, wire brush the rust off and see if you can see any holes in it before purchasing a new one. Also check out where it screws into the radiator a little closer .

The line connects to another line under the radiator correct? or is it one peice all the way to the transmission? Also, I guess this question is for trannyman but any input is appreciated...Should I just ditch the internal cooler and go with a small axillary cooler down in front? The only downfall I can see going this route is having to let the car warm up a bit longer in the winter

It's all one line. There is no need to run the external cooler. I have one on mine, but everyone I've talked to said it's a waste.

I'm having cooling problems too on my 00 GP GT they were rotted. SO what I'm doing rather than replacing the factory lines (@ dealer are around $100 each!), I bought new connectors on the tranny side from GM(Ac Delco 24213958 & 24233366), reusing the Rad side connectors(they're in good shape), going to Mister Transmission and buying 4 pieces of line about 2 inches long with the flare/bubble that clicks into the connectors and using 2 4 foot pieces of Russell Stainless Steel hose to connect it all(hose just clamps onto pipe extruding from connectors). LOOKS better than stock, and all under $100 bucks!!
