I've got my M90 in hand and was taking it apart for a good cleaning. The PCV valve cover has some sort of gray RTV type of sealant on it. Is this stock? The PCV valve in there looks pretty old (donor car I believe is a ~80k mile 02/03 Bonnie) so it might be original.

Is this some sort of factory sealant? Did someone not know what they were doing when they changed it and added sealant? After opening it, I find it pretty much useless to seal again and scraped it all off.

RTV is not stock for the PCV cover. There is a gasket that is supposed to be there.

Either someone RTV'd it or the gasket is long gone. I'll finish cleaning it up and get my parts guy to hook me up with a gasket. Thanks.

    Both

I'm not sure you will find it at an auto parts store.

I got connections at a Chevy dealer for parts. Employee prices.

But, you saved me the trouble of looking up the number for him. Thanks again for the help.

When I first got my GTP one of the first things I did was replace the PCV and there is a kit (not sure whether or not the part number covers it all) but there is a spring, PCV, the gasket and a plastic sleeve. Now, the plastic sleeve you can probably do without and I will tell you that booger is difficult to get out without the blower off to attack it from the bottom side and push it out. But I persaveered and got it all replaced.

Like said above, a gasket should be in there, but if done correctly, RTV works well with no problems.

When I reassemble my superchargers after a rebuild and the customer who supplied the parts of their choice do not include a gasket, One gets made from RTV. I have done this to my own personal superchargers a lot over the years, with never one leaking or causing any problems.

RTV is cheaper vs. a gasket that has a one time use out of it. Food for thought. Its not a real critical gasket that has to be in there either, not like various other engine parts that HAVE to have a gasket for example. You can get by with RTV no problem.

Sense we are on the PCV subject, when I get on my car, mainly WOT, my oil dipstick pushes out about a inch or so. Will a bad PCV valve cause this not allowing proper crank case ventalation?

Yep. All that blow-by not able to go somewhere. That's how you blow a seal.

Thanks. Guess that'll be my next thing. Had a feeling that was the problem, just wanted to make sure.

FWIW, I gave the PCV valve that came with my blower the shake test. A bit ghetto, but has been accurate in my experience. The one I got failed, so chances are yours is bad too.

Yup!!! You might also see a small gain in MPG too when you replace your old plugged PCV.

Scotty, the kit you are referring to is a Baffle kit, that comes with the top gasket, the pcv seal and the lower baffle...but does not come with the pcv valve. In all my experiences, you don't need to replace the spring or that baffle. But if anyone wants to write down the part number for it, it's 12538682.
