One of the more frustrating things I have in my '05 GT is the 3 button DIC............almost beyond useless with its features and why Pontiac didnt just go with a Speedometer based odometer/trip reading is beyond me.

Anyhow - Im still not 100% sure one can reprogram a 5 button swap but I figure if I can find one close enough in mileage I can wait it out

I saw this one on eBay:
2006 Grand Prix GXP Dic Drivers Information Center Five 5 Button 10349987 2742 | eBay

It has the 'Temp Sensor' module. Can someone tell me what I would need to do inorder to connect this and get it running? Is there something already in the car that this just plugs into or will I have to go on a wire fishing trip?

Anything else I would need to know install wise?

If anyone has an update on programming the mileage on this that would be great also - the few places with a Tech II and Candi module have told me they dont know how to do it.

Mileage I'm not sure on. The DIC is programmable though with the tech2 I've seen it in the programming list when updating my PCM a few weeks back.

The compass and temp sensor will probably already have the wiring and mounting locations in place.

    - The compass gets placed under the rear deck where the speakers are. You fold down the seats, and take out the four visible bolts, two next to each latch that helps hold the seat backs up. Then the irritating part, be patient, because while some people pull them out with east, I usually struggle for a good 10 minutes :/ You have to pull out a push-pin type retainer, one on each side, behind the small portions of seat backs that don't fold down. But once you do that, just lift up the ear deck, and you'll see a square of the insulating fiber cut out for the compass.

    - The outside temp sensor Is behind the grill, on the plastic panel between the metal front bumper support and the radiator. There should be a wire harness. You can then push it in place, you'll see what I mean.

Definitely try to find someone who has a tuner or a good scanner, dealerships and the such charge way too much for what they're really doing.

07 grand prix cars have tpms sensors in the wheel as opposed to the 04-06 relying on abs wheel speeds to determin inflation pressure.

So this means if you put an 07 or higher dic in an 06 and under car,, you will be annoyed with constant tpms error messages...

06 and up dic/radio bezels have a passenger airbag indicator light built in to the moulding...

I also have listed on here a five button dic kit with temp sensor and compass sensor removed from an 04 if anyone shall need one.

And swapping the compass module is easy if you dont have monsoon, just go inside your trunk and shove your hand up through where the monsoon amp would mount and connect it by feeling around, cuts 30-45 minutes from your install time!

I dont understand the wire cutting part - if I buy a 5 button DIC cant I just plug it in where my 3 button DIC is today or does it require the wire harness????

So I ordered the 5 button DIC kit today. One of the buttons has the picture rubbed off - its one of the buttons the 3 DIC has - anyone know if its difficult to remove and replace a button on these?

I believe it's accessible through the front grill, not sure if it's the left or right side though.

Pop your hood and look at where the hood latch sits, there should be a small plastic shroud held by two push-pins that covers the "workings" of the hood latch. Pop those pins out, remove the shroud, and take a look to see if you can see where it will sit. If you have to remove either grilles, just slide your hand in from that opening that's left after removing the latch shroud and push the grill outwards, it should pop right out with enough force. You may have to push on the little tabs that hold them in place while pushing out.

Don't be afraid to use some force on the grilles though, from experience they use VERY bendy plastic and are pretty damn hard to break. I should know, I took out a deer just last month and those grilles were the only plastic parts on the entire front end of my car not cracked or destroyed, while the entire bracket that holds the headlight assemblies in place were all sorts of screwed up...

So I picked up a 5 button DIC that was 1200 miles ahead of my current mileage - 1 month later and I finally matched both odometers so I could do the swap without any reprogramming.

It was a piece of cake. The temp sensor was a pain to put in - not much room with removing the bumper trying to snap it into place. The Compass module was easier thaan I thought as I tried to completely dismantle the back seat I realized I only needed to take the 4 bolts off holding the pass through plastic in place and then I could just simply pry up the cover and put the compass in place. All the wiring was in place on my '05 GT2. I got the 5 button DIC from an '04 so no problems with TP sensors and such.

So far everything works like a champ - thanks for everyones help.

One other thing - I needed to swap a fwe buttons from my 3DIC to the 5DIC due to wear and tear. The DIC has 4 'snaps' that hold the case together in addition to the 4 screws holding it in place. These snaps were a pain in the arse to get open. I eventually broke 1 or 2 on each one.

Finally - anyone looking to buy a 3 button DIC with trim piece

I just installed the 5 button DIC into my 05' GTP and it plugged in and now the ambient temp correctly displays the temp. I guess something was wrong with the 3 button, though it did not display temp anyway. It does seem to have an effect though. My car was equipped with the front temp sensor already as well as HUD. I went to install the compass module and there is no plug for it. I searched all the harnesses and there isn't any wiring for the compass anywhere. Next step is to find an 06 or below 5 button DIC since I ended up with an 07' so I'm getting the service tire monitoring system error as stated earlier.
