I have a 05 Grand Prix that I replaced the ignition cyl a few weeks back. Everything seemed to be running smoothly until Thanksgiving day.
was headed home at night when the car died suddenly. everything shut down headlights radio etc and the car died.Slowed to a stop put it in park and the car fired right off with no probs.
I have had other cars die on me but never has everything shut down.I can find no reason why this happened .Battery good alt checks ok didnt see any fuse out. The reason for my concern is if this happens again I might not be on a deserted road. The steering did not lock but I kept the wheel straight when I stopped. Any Ideas on what caused this ?? It does have an aftermarket security sys w/ remote start. I do not have any info on that yet as I did not install it. Right now thats all the info I can think of. Please shoot me some ideas I let my 19yr old daughter drive this and that scares me.

I good guess would be the crank sensor.

Pretty common issue for these cars. And it seems to never throw a engine code.

I think you're on the right track with the key cyl or the remote start security. Given that you lost lights and radio at the same moment, the car didn't know which position the key was in. I don't think the remote side would be as likely as long as you really had the genuine key in. Why did you put in a new key cyl?
