I have an 2004 GTP with EVIC , when i start the car it gives me any problems found etc.. I have one that I can't fix, "Check Gas Cap" I replaced the cap and reset the computer, 3 days later it came back on. Any ideas? The cap checked fine at my local AIMs testing station.

Also the float broke in the windshield washer bottle, so I get that annoying one also. "Check washer Fluid" any way i can disable this?

I think you can unplug the sensor. Where did you get the new cap?

NAPA cap. I don't think it's the cap.

I had the same code and replaced my gas cap, but that didn't fix the problem. I remember that I got my fuel pump replaced shortly before the code came up. The seal for my gas tank must have not been on all the way, or something else around that area.

Is it just the check Gas Cap Message on the DIC or do you also have Check Engine light on as well? Any recent work done to the car lately?

My mechanic says it could be the filler neck. I don't smell any fumes tho. And yes it also has a CEL.
You call it a DIC? I am used to the mopar EVIC .

I would go ahead and get it scanned to see if there are any additional codes being registered. The Gas Cap is an indicator that the EVAP system is detecting a major leak in the system. A minor leak would be pin holes in the filler neck or a split hose in the recovery canister (Right underneath the filler neck) or a hose in one of the solenoids.

The reason I say to get it scanned is I had a smiliar issue with my 04 GT this year and I spent a lot of time chasing ghosts when the problem was a blown fuse in the PDC under the hood. Check all the simple stuff first.

I have a similar issue as Craig, I had some engine work done recently, and about 4 minutes after I start the car, the Check Gas Cap indicator comes on, and I have an ever-present CEL. However, very shortly ago, the car now makes a whining noise... and thoughts?

go to autozone and have your car scanned, they will give you the code and then tall you what could possibly be wrong with it.

then fire up your own thread and post your problems.

I will get it scanned and share the info. I don't think Monaco1 was thread jumping or whatever it's called, maybe together we can remedy this problem. I have 185k on my car so it may have a few problems others are not getting yet.

it can get confusing, as to whos problem is whos in a short amount of time. separate threads keep things easy.

    Monaco1,

Have you had any success getting this looked into? If we can be of any assistance in working with a GM dealership (understandable if this isn't an option for you at this time), please let us know.
