I think I have traced the rough idle to the lower motor mount and am ready to change. I put the car up on ramps and it looked pretty easy from what I read here. Unbolt the bottom bolts from the mount, jack up the motor at the oil pan and unbolt the top bolts. Tried that and jacking the motor took the whole car up with it. the GM manual talks about taking off the tire, fender liner and a/c compressor. I need a little help here....

Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

No, what I was doing wrong was trying to get it from the bottom only. Hitman hooked me up with going through the PS wheelwell. All done, and think I fixed the rough idle. Did put a dent in the oil pan tho....one of the studs came out of the old mount, and was laying in the pan where the mount sits. I missed it and it was laying in that tray so the new mount wouldn't drop all the way...I jacked and re-jacked the engine a bunch of times trying to get the mount to seat before I found the problem and the 2x4 I had under the oil pan must have shifted in the process. Will post pic when I get a minute. Took a quick test drive and good oil pressure so i don't think I'll have a problem. thanks again hitman you rock

Shhhh you'll inflate his ego. He's a thin guy...but his head might swell to epic proportions if we keep telling him how helpful his good advice is.

It's way easier to flog a guy and use him until he gives up.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Uh..actually the beatings brought his morale pretty low. We should probably give him an "attaboy" later on today.

Here's the damage on the oil pan:

This is looking front to back, you can see on the right where the 2x4 shifted off the end of the oil pan and was just short of the strong(er) side wall. I would say I indented the bottom of the pan about 1/4" or so...ran it hard on the way in to the office today and it ran strong, no oil pressure issues, so there must still be enough room to where the pickup isn't starved.

Where I was jammed up on the repairs was the factory service manual over on GPONA...they have you supporting the engine from the top, removing the cat from the right manifold, removing the PS hose attachments, removing the a/c compressor mounts, then hoisting the engine so you can get at the bracket bolts that attach the engine mount bracket to the block. Then pull that assembly and remove the mount from the bracket on the bench. Then I'm reading over here "It's a 40 min job..."

I had the car on ramps thinking that the mount came out through the bottom...

Well...first error, not reading more than one how to on the subject. I like to get a few different persepectives when doing something for the first time. Typically one of the sources has an easier/better way than the FSM.

You are perfectly fine with that wimpy little dent. I've mushed my pan with a jack before, because on the Bonneville (92-99) the pan is within an inch or so of the subframe.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Glad I could help out Burb-guy. The damage to the pan doesn't look too bad, but if you get the urge, upgrading to the aluminum pan is the way to go in my opinion. That stupid big ass cradle bracket is just retarded.
