Has anyone made a coil-on plug ignition for the 3800?

Would clean the engine bay and give more spark. Works wonders on the LS engines.

ZZP had a prototype IIRC and someone else likely did it as well.

You can give more spark than a waste spark system, it fires double the amount as any ignition system.

To me, its more trouble than its worth, the 3800 ignition system works just fine.

    Ls isnt coil on plug.

    Its coil near plug.

If you want to replace the entire ecu system then sure, until then, stock is sufficient.

While things like this would sure make a unique project, until you've got all the other go-fast mods under your belt, it's a waste of time and money since the stock system does everything we need it to. Since most of us are not cool/rich/adventurous/knowledgeable enough to get that far, it makes for an unlikely modification.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

You can relocate the coils like plenty of people have done by extending the ICM harness...cleans up quite a bit of the engine bay.

    Would I do it?

Probably not....as it is the stronger of the two dog bones as well.

You wouldn't have to change that much. 3.5 short star is also 90* v6 with coil near plug. Just have to rewire the coil packs
That sit in top of the valve covers for 3800.

Maybe grab the coils from the 4.4 supercharged north star or rewire for coils from LS and call it a day.
