For a while my gas gauge has been mostly reading full, even though it isn't. Sometimes it fluctuates a little but I never know what the level is. So for the most part it usually just stays "full". I always have to rely on the trip counter. Now is this a common problem? Is it most likely a short, loose connection; or is it maybe something more serious, such as the fuel gauge sender unit? Any ideas?

I had the same problem until i had ZZP install their SSM90 kit along with a couple other things. I mentioned the same problem you are talking about and they were able to fix it. I don't want to tell you the wrong thing since i am not totally sure how they fixed it. Email ZZPerformance and ask them about it. They will be able to tell you a better, more precise answer. Hope this helps!

Fuel level sender. Replace it. Yes it's a common problem.

bear with me guys, im a little new here. but how complicated and expensive is a job like that? im pretty sure there is an access panel under the trunk liner (giving access to the pump and the sender) so i dont have to drop the tank. but anything else I should know? thanks for the reassurance thus far. minor i know but it still pisses me off.

It's nothing difficult. Pick up a haynes manual or something if you haven't already. It'll show you how to do all that sort of stuff and you'll see it's easier than you think. It's cheap, too.

there is a video on youtube where a guy does one on a Bonneville (YouTube - Pontiac Bonneville Fuel Sender Replacement -- PART 1) I've never done one (but I need to) so I can't say it applies to Grand Prix's but it will probably give you a general idea, I'd think anyway.
