To give you an idea of how loud it is, my car has flowmaster super 44s which are as loud as can be... When I got WOT, this squealing is almost ear splitting.

Not sure what it could be, when I fire up the engine and its idling- it'll chirp every second as the pulleys rotate. It only gets worse as the drivetrain is under load. If the engine is throttled in park or neutral- it wont get worse which I'd imagine is not an issue with the belt/ pulley setup.

It sounds like a cricket, thats magnified 10X. It seems like it coming from the top around the supercharger/ WP/ and idler pulley in that area (my car has a SSM90 setup). The idler pulley is pretty hard to turn.

Any ideas? I'll try to get a video of it by the end of the week.

if you have a idler pulley that dont spin freely or is more then loose or wobbles, thats your cricket.

it may melt down and break apart on you if you let it go to long.

Also make sure that S/C belt has tension on it. Could slip under higher boost

Could a bad idler cause slippage, which may result in delayed boost and reaction of the torque produced? I too have something squealing around my SC hub. And have noticed when i go WOT theres a slight delay. Unless its just all my timing :P

You're not feeling the transmission downshifting as your delay, are you?

Not sure. Some times it launches right away, others the rpms build and then a second later or so it shoots forward. Haven't paid any attention to the gear shifting, maybe I could check with m gauge when it displays what gear I'm in

if your tentioner is wearing out it could be slipping some.

i'd get on the pulley that dont spin well, then go from there. you know one noise at a time lol

Thanks guys, this is my DD right now as my Trans Am will be going into the shop on friday for body work. Tomorrow/ sat I'll start messing with it. I first noticed the sound last week, but it didn't become constant until the beginning of this week.

Instead of starting a new thread, can you guys recommend something that I can swap out my super 44s for? The drone and loudness has grown old on me, the only thing I like about them is the idle now.

Theres a guy locally selling these, anyone ever heard these on a GP? They're cheap enough..

if you dont have a resonator put a glass pack in where it was , they kill a lot of the drone.

those muffs will likely be worse.

Get some stock replacements/walker mufflers or something that is not chambered like flowmaster and magnaflows.

Any other opinions on exhaust? If I could keep the flowcrappers and just weld in something else to shut it up some I'd opt for that. I don't want a quiet car by any means, but this thing sets off every car alarm around and resonates off buildings like crazy.

The belt is starting to wear on the edge facing the pass side when looking head on into the engine bay. I think that idler pulley is the problem, the belt isn't seated full on 2 of the smooth pulleys, but its on properly on the ribbed ones- strange. The part that isn't seated is the more worn side.

take the belt of inspect the pulleys for play. run the car with the belt off for a minute tops to see if the noise is gone with the belt off.

Turns out that the AC compressor came loose enough to cause the belt to jump off the ribs halfway on the crank pulley. I'm lucky I caught it now before the belt got shredded and left me stranded somewhere, I put red loctite on the bolts so they should be alright.

Car runs nice and quiet now, wait I mean engine- the flowcrappers are still loud as hell lol. So any more advice on what to do with the exhaust?

I think I want to try a long glasspack to see if I can mellow the tone out.

Problem is that the longest I can find with 3" in/out is 30". I have a feeling it wont be enough?

Ha thanks, I hope this will ease the pain of highway cruising and get rid of some rasp. Going uphill cruising at 1600rpm is pretty bad.
