Just use whatever you want. I normally run Royal Purple 5w-30 or Castrol Full Synth. To be honest, I've tried way to many with no real dectable differences. When I switch to RP I immediately saw an increase in gas milage and what appeared to be a reduction in engine temps. For these reason RP is my fav, although, I wouldn't feel bad about running any quality name brand 5w-30 oil.

I use Castrol Syntec. But like Indeed said, any good name brand would be sufficiant.

    Castrol 10w-40

Make sure whatever you do decide to use though, does'nt have the 'For Gasoline Engines Only' star of disapproval.

Not to thread-jack, but I bought some Mobile 1 extended performance which supposedly can be used for 15,000 miles. I probably won't run it that long, but how long would be safe? Also, which filter is it that is bigger and allows us to run more oil?

^^Frams are made with lots of cardboard, I run PF47, which is the GM filter, available from murrays, pepboys, and walmart (probably more, but I don't know all)

**PF52 is the extended GM filter

Has anyone ever had anything hit or totally rip off their PF52 due to the extra length?

but yeah the K&N is nifty...I changed the oil in my moms malibu one time and the tire shop who changed it before put the filter on soooo tight that I used once of those tools to help unscrew the filter and Broke It....So I took a screw driver and plowed it straight throught it...what a mess!!!

I hate having to do that. Makes no sense why they put them on that tight.

yep hand tighten easily and half the time i'm already covered in oil since for some reason my oil likes to bottom out of the filter even after the drain..

Is the filter located behind the pass side front tire like ours? I always hated changing the filters that sat at an angle or totally sideways. Oil ends up everywhere. Thank god mine is straight up and down.
