Hey guys. So im kind of stumped here. I replaced my upper intake manifold gaskets at 97k and im now at 102k amd smelling oil burning again. Could it really be that the gaskets cracked? Again? Need some input here.

Just because you are smelling a burning oil smell, doesn't mean the LIM is bad. I'd try to see if you can identify where it's coming from. Oil sometimes leaks from the VCs onto the exhaust manifolds. Also, is there a possibility that you just did an oil change or something and spilled? I would expect a LIM to last longer than that unless you did not get a good gasket set or installed it improperly.

Just saw a post about the valve covers.. looks like its coming from right above the front exhaust manifolds. I did indeed do an oil change 2 weeks ago and spilled some oil but i went to the car wash and sprayed it off then wiped above the exhaust manifolds but the oil came back. Do you know how much a fix like that may run me?

If I remember right I got Felpro gaskets for about $50. It includes the bolt grommets. Not too expensive if you do it yourself. It's possible that there is a recall on it depending on what year your car is and if it has already been done. The recall only does the front gasket if I remember right. YOu can call your local dealership to see if your car has the recall and if the repair has already been performed.

If you smell oil burning, it is most typically a valve cover gasket. LIM's don't typically leak oil externally unless something is pretty wrong.

Ask me how I know... right..I've had something be pretty darn wrong..lol

@billboost37 haha yea i had something pretty wrong with my uim to where it was leaking oil. Then it cracked big time and the engine wouldnt hold pressure so it dumped all the coolant back into the overflow. It was bad. @glendayle that recall only covers the gtp's for the front valve cover replacement. All they do for us gt guys is move the snap pin for the spark plugs lol

I'm not seeing what you drive. It's NA.. but what year? Which mount is on teh front of the motor etc. Valve cover gaskets are the same with etiher motor. Slightly different shape, but they both leak. Do the gaskets. Should take you 2-3 hours yoru first time out.

If you are really careful and your coolant elbows are in good shape you shouldn't have to remove the alternator bracket for the rear cover which = not having to deal with coolant as well.
