My 05 Grand Prix GT is completely stock besides a Cold Air Intake. I dont want to redo my whole exhaust
system or do anything with mufflers. But was thinking about removing my resonator and replacing with straight
pipe or replacing with glass pack. I've seen a lot about removing the U-Bend or using a Downpipe also. I'm not looking to spend a huge amount of money. I also don't sit and rev up my engine. I just want something to improve sound/performance. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Removing the res from the exhaust wont net anything for performance, and because you still have the stock mufflers you wont notice much of a change in tone at all, maybe just at WOT.

You might aswell just leave it be.

Thanks for the reply. I plan on doing mufflers also in the future just not all at once. For money reasons. Would you recomend if anything removing res and replacing with glasspack. or replacing with straightpipe.

Magnaflow muffs are a strong possibility in the future. Not to set on any particular set of muffs. Any recommendations?

I prefer stock mufflers, I prefer the quiet car.

To me everything sounds bad going down the road. Magnaflows and flowmasters can only sound decent at idle, but driving with them is terrible to me anyway.

Borla is about the only one that I can stand. Its always a personal preference when it comes to exhaust.

This topic has been covered so many times it'll make your head spin.

For sound and performance, get headers. It'll deepen the sound without making it much louder, plus you'll free up some power and get a little better gas mileage.

If you remove the resonator and straight pipe it, there wont be much of a difference if any. Also, if later down the road you decide to replace your mufflers, then you'll want a resonator/glasspack to cut out the rasp/drone.

If you replace the resonator with a glass pack...then well...that's about it. You can say you did it. Wont change anything except some weight...maybe.

You're on the right track with removing the u-bend though. If you get headers ($225 all together) it'll remove all the big exhaust restrictions (depending if you remove the catalytic.)

And if you wanna be cheap, and just have a giggle now and then, Get a cutout welded in, and whenever the mood hits, unscrew it, and be loud as hell.

I would love to get headers in the future. But i just don't have that kind of money right now. I'm looking to spend around $100 dollars or less. I'm leaning towards running a down pipe which will remove the ubend and keep the resonator. Then in the near future do mufflers and possibly headers.

04+ Grand Prix don't have a U-bend, and the future headers would remove the down pipe. You should really do some reading before you start wasting money.

Ok. I'm just a teenager. I don't have money up the ass. I don't know much about cars. I've came to the conclusion that I don't want to do a Resonator delete after hearing that if i remove it my car will sound raspy. (Which i do not want). I'm not doing headers so just give up on telling me that. I'm keeping my cat also. I'm willing to do a ubend delete, mufflers and stuff like that. Is there no Ubend on my 05 gp gt? idk. help What would anyone recommend for me to do. I appreciate any replies at all and can take criticism. Thank you

04+ doesn't have a u-bend so cross that off your list
