I checked the tire pressure in my wife's 2006 Grand Prix GT and added to some and let some out of others. All tires now have an even 32psi when warm, but the tire pressure warning light is now on. The tires are Michelin and say up to 44psi, but the inside driver's door says 30psi max tire pressure. What tire pressure should I put in and how do I clear the light?

Sorry if this has been posted before. I'm not too familiar with navigating through a forum like this, so I may not have searched properly, but I did search for tire pressure and couldn't find any related threads. Hard to believe this wouldn't be a common problem.

    Thanks in advance.

I have always gone by what the tires themselves say. If the door says 30 psi, your tires are at 32 psi, and the DIC says the Tire pressure is low then there is somthing weird going on.

In all the tire company would probably know more about pressure ratings. Did your tires get changed at all?

I'm not sure - but mine came on after I rotated my tires a couple weeks ago, so my guess would be that it measures relative pressure rather than absolute pressure. Meaning it's only comparing it to the last reset that was done.

On the three button DIC - with the car in park press the right button until it shows "reset tire pressure" or similar, then press the reset button (center, I think).

This is a shot in the dark and based only on my experience with it, rather than any technical knowledge about the particular system, so maybe someone else could connect the dots.

The tire pressure monitoring in many modern cars is actualy part of the ABs system, It uses to abs pulses to determine the tire pressure (the tire expands/contracts due to pressure) it may sense the pressure is to high, and the 44max is just that, the max pressure you can put in them safely...I'd say put them all to 30 and see if the light turns off.... does it say low pressure, or just that it needs to be looked at.... also do you have an abs lights on, or traction control warnings??

My understanding of the system (Per the car manual) is that it doesn't actually measure the absolute tire pressure. All it does is monitor any significant changes in pressure. If a tire is running at a certain pressure, and there is a sudden and substantial change pressure, the light will come on. My manual states that you should never rely solely on the tire pressure monitor - always check them manually as always suggested.

your tire pressure is fine, ANYTIME you change the air pressure in your tires, you need to go to the DIC and clear the light...."reset tire pressure"....as "yourTVlies" said above....This should relieve your problem...
