so i have an 01 GTP and ever since i got it, the gas guage dosent quite work right when it's full it 'll read full and when it s really low it 'll read low but anywhere in between it can be random of corse this effeccts my mile to empty guage BUT my fuel used guage works to the T so ive been using it to know when im low but i still get caught on the side of the road every 5 mos or so with no gas, the fuel used guage can be .3 or so off sometimes... so what's wrong with the car? ive heard things like it's the fuel sending unit or i need a new fuel pump which is it?

I'd venture to guess its the sending unit. Could be the float is getting stuck. I think if your fuel pump were going bad, you'd have more serious problems than a faulty gauge

i know its not the pump it self but a mecanic said that the pump and the sending unit are in one unit so u can't replce just the sending unit...

I think thats a problem with alot of GP's.....I get about 200 miles out of the first 1/2 tank and 100 miles out of the last 1/2 tank.....My DIC is about 2 gallons off every time...I can put 17.3 gal in the tank and it says I used 15.4

FYI...If you need a sending unit get in touch with GTPMORAD he may have one for ya.

I had a similar problem with my first GP. The gauge would work fine till it got down towards a quarter tank. Then it would fluctuate a little. And when it was really low, it would read full. So I pulled the pump assembly and replaced the entire thing with a good used one from Ed.

The used pump was pretty cheap and damn easy to replace with the help of the access hole. Took me about an hour to do. Not sure what the cost of the pump was as it was a couple years ago. But I would say I am 99% certain that your sending unit in your pump assembly is bad. But not sure if you can get just the sending unit and replace it. Ed would know for sure.

Your post is moved over here now too. I left it open for now but if you can find everything you need here, we can close it and condense the information.

my only issue with a used one, is the seer number of failures on the stock sender. Has anyone used a new aftermarket one and had any longevity from it? I'd hate to buy a used one and have it do the same thing next year
