Transmission is still doing well at a little over 137k miles but was wondering for the future as I know we do not get the greatest transmissions in the GP. What would be the best way to go, a transmission rebuild or a new transmission, and if so what is the best way to rebuild it, is there a kit or something for it?

theres a built trans forsale in the classifieds, it will hold your power for years and years with abuse, most people that rebuild only relpace the broken parts and reuse the rest of the stuff
02 Grand Prix GT Intercooled turbo 5-speed 718whp 618wtq @ 21psi 7575 billet, spool valve, custom manifolds, 4" downpipe, 16way adjustable coilovers, 18x9.5 with 275's all around, gxp interior, gxp brakes
tilton triple disc, custom aluminum flywheel, tilton slave and master, an awful lot more

If your going to be modded look at TEP or Tim King. If your stock just stay with a stock rebuild. I'm at 218K miles on the stock trans around 20K miles on a 3.4 setup.
    98 GTP modded 1.9's, sd headers, 3.4", zzp 1.0 230K miles scrapped.

So it is cheaper to rebuild if you recycle the parts that are not broken, so what if I wanted to do a performance rebuild? that run high for 04 GP?

You could get a performance trans for around $2000

Rebuilding should entail replacing clutches and clearencing the packs, going through the valve body, replacing the 4th hub shaft if it's not hardened etc etc and looking over all the hard parts. Then using a new converter.

Cost depends on lot on the builder and if they are doing all the upgrades. Many places don't rework the valve body and do the upgrades. I know TEP does it automatically, not sure on other places.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
