Overheating

okay i have a new thermostat. i just put on a new water pump an hour ago and the damn thing is still overheating. i have no leaks and plenty of coolant. i drive the car for a few miles and it starts to overheat. could this possibly be b/c i have a clogged radiator or something along that nature??? I used some of that stop leak in can a long time ago....could this be the reason...PLEASE HELP B/C I AM AT WITS END!!!

You need to bleed the cooling system since you have done all that work to it. Just start it up and let it warm up to temp and crack open the bleeder screw on top of the thermostat housing and wait until you get a steady stream of coolant from it. It will most likely spit and sputter as the air works out along w/ the coolant.

I'm sure you checked but are any hoses collapsed? When you bleed the system on the 04+ I always jack up the front as high as I can to get the filler and bleeder higher than the heater core. You can also try and run with out thermostat to allow the coolant to flow thru the block while you bleed it, you will have to bleed it again after you put the thermostat in but all the big air pickets should be out. You can also take off the upper and lower hose and run water from the hose thru it to see if it's flowing well. Hope you get it fixed I know how frustrating the cooling system can be.

fill under t stat fill rad let run open rad cap, slowly, air comes out, put more coolant in. repeat if necessary

I had my coolant system emptied 5x times so far. after filling both ends and running the car, i only needed to top off coolant in the rad and was good to go.

Its the other systems out there that are a bi tch to bleed. The ones where the overflow is the highest point in the system and u bleed off a coolant rail. Those suck

ok...I just tried bleeding it and no air and no coolant ever came out of bleeder valve...the damn thing still overheats but not as quick as it did before. I am done messing with it today b4 i pull all the hair out of my head! lol i will try again tomorrow. I will take out tstat and jack up car to get a hight elevation. I will fill and bleed w/out tstat first then will install tstat. fill and bleed again...hopefully this will do the trick. well until tmrrw.

U can leave the t stat in. Just pull it out and fill the motor. Then close it up and fill the rad. Let it run till it hits your tstat temp

Leave the radiator cap off as well, do you hear any gurgling if you give it gas in park? That's always a tell tale sign of air in the system.

yes yes!! there is always gurgling.....ok...tmrrw i will bleed the **** out of it!!. hopefully that will fix the damn problem

coolant should come out of the bleeder screwt tho... if none is coming out then it is because air is coming out and so you need to leave it open until coolant starts to come out.

thats the thing. i do leave it open and never hear air coming out....much less no coolant...is ok to take the bleeder valve off completely. maybe my bleeder valve is clogged? idk

Do that b4 you start 2marow... Could be the problem, rare but u never tho!

How dirty was the coolant when you changed it?

What was the problem? I'm having the same issue and I have no idea how to solve it. I'm by no means a mechanic but I've had the t-stat replaced, new water pump, and new radiator and its still running warmer than its supposed to..

I have the same problem in my opinion but my mechanic doesn't seem to think so. It runs anywhere from 90-102 on a reg basis. Motor runs like a champ but I can't get the heat down & I have a drilled t stat, LIM job done, new waterpump, new elbows, new rad cap, new rad hoses, coolant flushed about 4 times & a rad that came out of a car that ran perfectly fine.

Are you losing coolant? Any milky residue on underside of valve cover cap?

Sounds like stock fan settings.

90-102 would be Celcius aka about right on the mark for stock fan settings and a 195F stock T stat. I guess that's right around 95C isn't it?

On the other ...if you have gurgling and can't seem to get the system to bleed, pull the thermostat and fill into the intake manifold directly. Sometimes you'll get airbound and can't get it to bleed itself w/o pulling the stat.
