The written instructions accompanying the mode actuator replacement direct removal and replacement from under the dash yet the image in the factory service manual shows everything being done from above, ex. putting the actuator arm on the rotating tab and installing a new tie from above. Any suggestions?

I tried to do this from underneath per the written instructions and rotated the pivot by looping some string around the hook. Unfortunately, the tail end of the hook broke off when I got the actuator arm on the hook. Can I access the hook by removing the DIC so I can epoxy the tail end of the hook back on the rotating portion?

    Many thanks,
    Joe

Bill, Sometimes I think I'm the only one who has had a mode actuator fail. Thanks, Joe

I've never heard of anyone having the pleasure of replacing this.

This may be a historic moment for GPF. LOL

Watch - mine will break tomorrow.

Joe, you might be. The picture makes it look vacuum operated. Typically those don't fail, the vacuum from the motor gets lost somewhere on the way around the engine bay.

Bill, You're right. The actuator didn't fail and it is operated by vacuum. What broke is the thin metal arm which extends from the actuator and pushes against the rotating plastic pivot piece. I keep hoping that someone will share how to both best access the plastic tab so I can repair it and install the new actuator. It was a bear to get the new actuator attached the first time and I'm not going to try it again without some advice. Thanks, Joe
