Hi, yesterday i noticed a huge leak of antifreeze coming from my 3800.
ive read in shop manuals and closed in on the seal of the water pump going bad and causing the vent to spill coolant, would this cause a large amount of coolant to be lost? And how would i be able to see if it is leaking from there?
Any other ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.

Its possible its coming from the weep hole.

Id suggest cleaning it up, run the car and get under it with a flash light to see where the leak is coming from.

also another question, when the car is off and the thermostat isnt open, will coolant reach the water pump? or does it cycle to the botttom of the radiator and back up into the water pump return hose?

yes, coolant is always in the water pump.

It goes from the water pump to rad, then through the rad to the upper hose then back into the lower intake manifold.

check the plastic elbow as well, and heater hoses off the back of alt bracket. also when the water pump leaks it can/will sling coolant on the hood from the belts. some times they only leak after you turn the car. you can take the belt off and see if the WP pulley has any play to it, if so thats your leak.
